Forums - Sony - Tales of Xillia's combat is hard to navigate..

So upon the advice of people here, I purchased the game. Decent, but really tough combat to navigate.. I end up spamming buttons.

1. It's fast. Like damn fast, compared to the usual RPG fare I frequent. I usually can't keep up with everything that's going on.

2. There're too many functions. Linking, linking artes, switching characters, running around, etc.

3. The controls are a little unresponsive. I can't switch links and characters effectively. When I press the d-pad, nothing usually happens.

4. I can't figure out that combo thing. I mean, when the gauge on the left is full and I do a linked arte, it says I have a combo chance.. still don't know how to go on from there.

Like the game, but the combat seems too complex for me. I never thought I'd ever see a game that's too fast for me. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I felt that way at first, but I got use to it after some time. Switching characters was a little confusing at first too....i had to experiment a bit before i found out how to do it properly

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

Oh it's kinda complicated but with practice it's easy to understand!

The combo bar can only go up if you are linked to another character. That way the bar goes up and up! once it gets to certain level you can press a button, which I totally forgot and activate it! I think that when you activate it you get to use lots of link artes without wasting TP.

It's a good game although Graces F is a bit better for me.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

It was hard at first for me too.
But after more boss fight I have become pretty good at the game.
You will get better at it too.
It's a very nice game. I was craving for a good JRPG this gen and I was very happy with Tales Of Xillia.

How dare you talk bad about a Tales game.. Get used to it and keep it to yourself.

Now can somebody throw this man into an endless pit of death?

Grace F is better???

I have enjoyed Xillia so much. This gen was a dissapointment for me when it comes JRPG. Can you also recommend other JRPG I will appreciate.

Thanks

Be careful now. Its his opinion.

My opinion is that Tales of Graces F is much worse. The cast is childish, the story moves at a snails pace and the combat is unbalanced (you need to attack at the same time as another party member to be able to do decent damage. Your set of skills by itself is pretty weak and the combat itself is spammy in wich theres no TP, so you unload all your SP > defend to regen them > unload them again). Some people seemed to like it, but i most certainly didnt.

Just wanted to warn you. :) If those dont bother you then go on ahead.

The speed and combat system never bothered me. I honestly thought it was kinda slow after a while. Do you play fighting games often?

I am the Playstation Avenger.

Not sure if I'll buy this game after all, now. I like RPGs that depend more on tactics than hack-n-slash.

Me and my mate are finding it hard to get a grasp on, too. I keep jumping instead of running in the direction I intend to.

Definitely not as good as Graces in terms of battle system; but leagues better in story. And graphics.
