Forums - Gaming - Kaz Hirai: PS4 is a “True Object of Sensation;” Setting a “New Standard in Gaming”

To me, it appears to simply be continuing the standards of the 7th gen. To me, it appears that the PS4 will win the generation but be a little bit boring doing it and ultimately fare better on others' mistakes than actual brilliance in its own right.

But, we'll see, maybe they actually will present something really new and cool down the line.

Isn't that pretty much what the PS1 & 2 were to an extent, though?

Solid consoles with fantastic libraries of games which were a rock of normality while their competitiors ran around like headless chickens.  Or something like that.

What's your point? Are you saying that PS4 games wont be on there at all?

for the time being, yes.

- Release big console to much fanfare/sales

- Make console redundant a few months later by announcing cloud service that can play exclusives on any device...

It plays PS3 games, not PS4 games.  So your second point is incorrect.

What is stopping it from playing PS4 games? Sony's decision?

If it can stream PS3 games, then PS4 is certainly NOT out of the question....

Tell that to the people who are having second thoughts about buying PS4s now, since PS4 tech could be just as easily incorporated into streaming as PS3...

What do you think? Of course Sony is the one not allowing it.

PS4 has to sell well this generation. This service is meant to be a way to bring BC to consoles and various devices, not cannibalize the current gen sales :S

THey'd end up cannibalizing their own sales if they did that. I'm pretty sure that Sony would rather have someone buy a Ps4 than a subscription to PSnow

im sure there are millions of people who are now going to go buy Xbox One's and WiiU's right this moment after hearing this news. Pitty, PS4 is dead for.

You're looking at it from a negative perspective.

How about: instant increased userbase from other platforms? More control over software distribution?

Why do you think many services are becoming cloud based lately? If there is profit in it for Sony, they will go that route, most certainly at the expense of hardware...

Xbox is in a similar position...

I said it 2 years ago and I'll say it again, PlayStation and Xbox will become cloud based services across already-established hardware.

Nintendo will take longer due to their differing company policy....
