I'm honestly shocked Gamespot is the one to give it the them. Especially considering they are the only ones so far to do so.

Congrats to Nintendo/3DS for the win. It's not easy for handhelds to get the GOTYs as gaming websites seem to prefer giving GOTYs to the home consoles.

Unfortunately for Nintendo they actually need a Wii U game to win some GOTYs to improve Wii U's profile.

Why unexpected? They made Demon's Souls their GOTY when no one else did, so they have a bit of a history for not following the crowd when it comes to GOTY.

That's pretty cool. Personally, I think I'd rank Pokemon X/Y above it. It's hard to argue with 250 hours vs 40 hours.
