I don't know how many people on the site are near the northern Illinois area (I seem to recall BenKenobi, but other than that, who knows).
For those who haven't heard, there was a shooting on the campus o Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, Illinois today. The last I have heard, 6 people have died, including the gunman (self inflicted), several more were injured.
I just figured I'd start a thread to let anyone who might be on the site might live in the area, have been affected by this tragedy, or would just like to speak their minds about the situation. I just ask (nay, I plea) please don't turn this into an "America sucks" thread, or a fight about gun control. Please.
I'll start it off, I guess. I've never really been freaked out with the school shootings in the past. Columbine took place while I was in high school, but it never really felt like something that schould affect me, you know? I mean in the grand scheme of things, to a 16 year old, Colorado is as far away from Illinois as China; but lately these shootings have been striking closer and closer to home. A few weeks ago there was that shooting in Missouri at a city council meeting, and here I am, filming council meetings every week. Now there is this: a shooting in a college that is less than 20 minutes away from the college I work at! It takes a lot to rattle me, but I've got to admit, this one did it.
Anyway, I'll stop my rambling now, and just say that my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved. This sort of thing seems to be happening more and more lately, and I just hope that no more families have too suffer. :(
