Forums - Gaming - What If Nintendo Didn't Exist In First Place ? What Then Will Happened To The Gaming Industry ?

Tagged games:

PC gaming would have taken over. It probably would have happened at a much slower rate, with no huge boon happening until maybe the late eighties or even nineties when more people started getting computers. But it would have remained pretty niche for a really long time, and I don't think it would be anywhere near where gaming as a whole is now. The home console is what brought gaming to the masses, and without the NES doing what it did I don't know if anyone else would have ever come close to doing the same. Maybe a few more Ataris would have come out, but none of them would have Mario on them, so they would just fade away.

Today you would see a lot less people playing games, and most of the games would be shooters. Adventure games would still be a lot more popular, maybe even surviving the decline we saw in the last decade.

It's hard to say where the smartphone market would be right now. Nintendo kind of paved the way for touch screen devices with the DS. Maybe if we did have them they'd have a lot less games on them. Or maybe we would still be using Blackberries with those horrible little mouse balls.

Good video and a really long one. Didn't know Sega have another mascot before Sonic which is Alex Kidd. If mario didn't exist then we would have a ton of lot of Alex Kidd games till now. Also most third party games including Sony game would be on Sega console due to the use of CD instead of catridge. To sum it up Sega and Microsoft would be king if Nintendo didn't exist but still a bad future for the gaming industry.

Gaming likely would have progressed much the same, just with different companies involved. Game progression would likely have moved along the same lines, as well, as game-play is driven by hardware.

Microsoft would probably have gotten involved eventually. Sony, maybe not.

Playstation and Xbox wouldn't exist, and Sonic wouldn't have been invented.

Monty Mole would have become the world's biggest gaming mascot!

Game industry would be completely different. Sony got into the game business to supply Nintendo with chips, because that was going well they wanted to collaborate on a CD drive.

Without that fallout, the Playstation never happens. If the Playstation never happens then Microsoft never bothers to end the console biz either as they really only entered because Sony refused to use Windows on the Playstation.

Sorry but can I get a source to support your second paragraph? It's the first time I'm hearing about it.
