How do you think the 6th gen would have played out. I'm not sure what would have happend. I think the most likely would have been this.

1. Xbox

2. GameCube

3. Dreamcast

4. PS2

The Xbox would have gotten all the third party support, leaving Nintendo and Sega to rely on first party. Nintendo's software is more popular, so the GameCube would do better than the Dreamcast.

What do think would have happened?

If ps2 failed it would' ve meant the DC had suceeded and the Xbox probably wouldnt be released.
And i think we would have a muc richer games market today with the old and talented Sega still around.

if it would have failed, we wouldn't have all these sony fan boys that act like 5 year olds.

We would have Shenmue III and IV.
Many rpgs on the Dreamcast and more SEGA consoles.
Maybe.
Who knows.
But the PS2 was not able to fail any way.

It's an alternate universe, anything can happen. We'll just go with that they made the PS2 a super powerful, very expensive console that was sold at a loss, had the old PS3 controller, and had very little support.

The gaming market would be pretty different.

ms would've bought sega
sunshine would have sequels
rare would be owned by nintendo
vhs would limp further along
Wii would have had horsepower

There would be heavy competition between the Gamecube and Dreamcast. Gamecube might've been more "SNES-like". The Xbox might have not have happened and instead MS would team up with Sega.

Sony would've been back to the drawing board and probably release the first gen 7 console.

DC had a massive head start and would have been an immense success if not for the PS2. I also don't think we would have had games like Halo if not for the PS2's expansive library of games. The Cube would also have been much more successful I think.

In this alternate universe, I don't think M$ would have done well. I'm an Xbox 360 fan but I'm pretty sure that Microsoft copied a lot from Sony's paper. If PS2 failed, the Xbox would have failed for the exact same reason. We'd just have the big two- Sega and Nintendo and gaming consoles wouldn't have as many mult-media functions.

Sega would still have as many 3rd party/customer trust issues. I'd say it would go
1. Gamecube
2. Dreamcast
3. PS2
4. Xbox (which would follow the path of Panasonic/Nec/SNK/Phillips/generic company that tried to enter the gaming market)
