Last gen you had people bitching about LIVE, which was $50-$60/year (Spare me the "I find deals") and you got online play, that's it. Yes, you can say Netlix, Last.FM, etc... but those are only added to give the appearance of value. They were free everywhere else. Now you pay for PSN+ and you get online and free games monthly that always outweight the price of the service. This service also covers your PS3 and Vita consoles, if you have them. So in my case I have (15) free games on PS3, quite a few (I think like 7-8) free games on Vita and free games on PS4, all for (1) payment of $50/year and the games available changes monthly.

The bonuses are different but the goal of most customers is the same. To play against other people online. Let me say from what I know, the bonus fetures of ps plus are better than live's bonuses, but I'm sure the majority of people gamers out there would rather not pay for any of the fetures and just play against others online for free. That was the complaints the op was talking about.
before ps4 released with it's forced paid online service, the sony customers that were ps plus members from ps3 of course would not complain, but those subscriptions were far from the majority. the people who downed ms for needing to pay to play online that have gone quiet because they have to pay too are on that double standard shiz. Some off them that still feel the need to complain have changed their argument to what you just said about the bonuses. before that, they most sony fans would not have given ps plus a chance so one more time I say:
"double standards plain and simple"
