Alphachris said: "The Story in FF XIII was poor". I often hear that, but I almost always miss further arguments... .... So if I had to review this game, it would be one of the few real 10/10 games of this generation, among games like Uncharted, Assassin's Creed 2 or Heavy Rain. |
First, sorry I cut most you post out, it was good and made sense. I can understand why you liked it.
The way you explained the story was done better in this post than the actual game itself. That is the point, I could know a hilarious joke that when told by Jimmy Carr would get lots of laughs but he can deliver a joke, from me it might get a slighty snigger at best. The joke is the same but it's how it is told. Some of the best stories ever writen have come from uncomplicated plots.
In FFXIII's it may not have been a poor story but no one can surely argue that it wasn't told poorly. We started the game being rushed into some kind of big war, not knowing why and within an hour, people were waffling on about fal'Cie and l'Cie like they were common knowledge to us, the characters knew but we didn't. Only later in the game was this explained to us (or by datalog's, can't think of a worse way to learn about a world than doing background reading) but by then most had lost interest. Most other FF games your start out not knowing much, like the main characters usually, and learn as you go with the characters. Zidane was just an womanising actor/thief at the start and look where FFIX took him.
Hmm, pie.
