Yeah, it's software related. I use my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player all the time and I have a 3D TV so that one is a must. I'm actually glad both next gen consoles feel so limited right now (both in games and other features) because that will keep me from buying a PS4 for some time

I just tested it with Samsara and Akira, it works fine apart from the missing bitrate in the information panel. 96khz and 192khz playback are intact and sound just as great. Looks great too.

The O button now pauses the video and returns back to normal speed after fast forwarding with the triggers. (1.5x, 10x, 30x, 120x speed) Same as on ps3, 1.5x with sound, rest fast skipping clips.
When paused you can frame step forward and back with the D-pad. There doesn't seem to be any slow motion playback, (The ps3 has variable slow motion with the right analog stick)

The options button brings up a little menu where you can quickly access audio, subtitles and other settings. You can now switch output settings on the fly. Switch to bitstream direct if you want your amp to do the Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD MA decoding (makes no difference), or adjust video output.
Edit: Actually there does seem to be a slight difference on my Yamaha receiver, bitstream direct seems to have a slightly bigger dynamic range then what linear pcm defaults to. I guess it depends on your audio equipment.

You still can't access anything else while playing a blu-ray. PS button asks to quit blu-ray playback. It did resume my movie from where I left off in about 10 seconds.

Oh and no the share button does not work with blu-ray playback :p

I guess the extra info and 3D playback will be patched in later, for now it's competent enough as a 2D player, video and audio quality is intact. I'll continue using my ps3 for playback anyway, nothing wrong with it. Spread the wear and tear on the drives :)
