Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One Cold Boot Takes 1 Minute and 8 Seconds, Runs Hotter, Consumes More Power In Standby Than PS4

Both of those standby numbers are too high is you ask me. The One is like leaving a CFL on 24/7

P.S. anyone know how long the PS4 takes to start? Both from a cold start and from standby?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

That´s explain why the Xbox One is bigger.

It was a design decision for it to run games, apps and TV seamless. That´s explain why they have to sacrifice a more powerfull GPU or/and GDDR5 to achieve a more "balanced" power and performance which the PS4 is free to give all to games.

Its a console thats always designed to be in standby. they wont give a crap what the cold boot time is i bet theyve not even tried to optimise it, its not something this machine is suppose to do regularly.

IF enough people complained and they won't, im sure they could reduce the boot time with some optomization.

They sure as hell managed it in windows 8, its amazing how fast it boots compared to windows 7 or god forbid XP

Xbox One runs quieter during gaming:
Gaming: Xbox One - 42dB, PS4 - 51dB

Xbox One's "case"/hottest spot temperature is only higher during gaming (PS4 vent peaks at 50°C)
Gaming: Xbox One - 49°C, PS4 - 44°C

If it is hotter but quieter, it just means they are running the fan at a lower RPM.  They can always boost the fan speed to drop the temperature if they think heat will be an issue (at the expense of making it louder).

Conversely, Sony obviously decided that 51 dB is quiet enough and gives them the cooling they need.  They could also drop down their fan RPM to make the unit quieter (and hotter).

I am happy that neither runs like my old AMD Athlon XP 1700+ :)

IMO both consoles are fine, it's just that OP picks out the bad things of the One and compares it to the "best" values of the PS4. Telling half-truths.

What did you expect. Every time you come into a negative XBox one Article it's by a sony fan. C'mon this the game played around here. They must not like the pS4 because they have constently posted in here.

wait why would the XB one ever over heat even at 49 celcius... I had PC CPU run close to 90 celcius at the end of their lives.... with the size of the box and the fan I have no worries at all...

now that some PS4 have issues at 45 is worring it can only mean two things either the air flow is terrible in the PS4 or the system with issues have chips that run hotter than 45 C

cause at the end of the day the temperature in my dorm room in summer when I lived in SC was over both of those console max temperature when my TV, PC, console where on.... I don't know any piece of electronic that have issues in those range of temperature unless again this is outside temperature which makes it more worrying for PS4 IMO

on the power side I'm a little bit surprised but this probably will be optimized I guess.... then again I switch all my bulbs recently to LED or low power consumption bulbs which cuts my consumption by way more than what the stand by mode of the console use... so all in all even with an XB1 added to my power bill my 2014 energy consumption will be greener than 2013.....

well anyway things look great to me

Once more I have to wonder if MS put any thought at all into the X1 or if they are trying to make it inferior in every single way possible.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if it was integrated with myspace instead of Facebook...

That is not even the best news, the best is that:

- X1 needs 19W (according to DF) just to store a game session
- PS4 needs 10W to store a game session & awaiting backgound/update downloads...

Nobody ever said that the background automatic updates or install was on X1. Sorry Eurogamer told us that once, but it was them who invented the already PS4/X1 parity...

From what I can tell it takes around 10-15 seconds in standbuy and idk cold.  I have bairly ever cold started it, but I would guess 30 seconds...

The 1 minute cold boot makes sense thought the Xbone has a powerful OS and it was designed to be on stand by mode for years.

By "Powerful" you mean unoptimized.  Linux is far snappier than Windows and it is used in super computers...
