Forums - Sony - Sony - exchanging defective playstation 4 units immediately

I wonder if Sony counts these "exchanges" as sales. That would explain the unusually high figures for a Playstation console.

Rofl. Yes people had defective consoles so at 2am Friday morn they shipped it to sony so they could get to them within 24 hours to inflate day 1 sales

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Well that is good news, and people getting speedy replacements is even better.

would a company ever hold back a percentage of units for this scenario? Defects in electronics are common, could they have held back 3% of stock just in case, so they had units ready to send?

Good news but nothing less than expected. This certainly will be used as another very positive PR campaign. They really are on fire this launch. Let's see if MS can keep up with them.

Yes. Actually, though, to be honest, this year, in preparation of the launch, MS too eventually answered most issues and criticisms in a positive way, but it was very often slower than Sony, and so it attracted many shitstorms on its own head that it could have avoided reacting faster.

1% failure and rapid replacements are fine, But the RRoD didn't emerge for a while, so I hope that this is the only problem with the PS

If Sony can replace the broken ones faster than new ones emerge, then the shitstorm will die down in a few days. There doesn't seem to be a single defect that really stands out., and there is no notable increase of reports at present.

Just for the humour impaired, here are a few contributions from misterxmedia's blog:

1. "I talked to the manager at my local GameStop and he said that of the 90 midnight launch PS4s, they've had 30 people bring back defective units, and another 20 or so people call with BLODs. 55% failure! It only does SONYFAIL!"

2. "76 returns for a Gamestop here in Miami."

I'm just sitting back and await the shitstorm on "Insider" on that drivel site when the XBox apu images appear, will be fun to watch..

That site is always good for a few laughs.  Every new post reeks of desperation.  Can't wait to see that site blow up when the One launches and starts to fall behind the PS4.

Even funnier to think that just a month or so ago, he was used as a credible source by some on this site.

Do you have a defective PS4?   Here is part of the checklist for returning the dead one..

So remember, if your console is filled with tiny bugs.  They dont want you to send it.
