Remember this rumor/leak back in 2012?
Even Kotaku leaked it, saying it was part of the Activision lawsuit involving the Respawn guys... seemingly confirming it would come out first on the next gen Xbox.
Everyone thought Bungie's next big game (DESTINY) would be timed-exclusive on the next gen Xbox.
Then Bungie announced they would first show off DESTINY on Feb 17th this year, a mere 4 days before the big PS4 reveal... some people speculated that Microsoft/Bungie were doing it on purpose to try stealing some of PS4's thunder.
Ohhhh, how WRONG they were. Instead, Bungie showed up at the PS4 reveal with DESTINY and announced PS4 would have the definitive version of DESTINY, and there would be exclusive content for the PS4 version.
Sony/Activision/Bungie have an exclusive marketing deal just like MS does with COD. Every commercial and online ad for DESTINY so far has had PS4 attached to it. PS4 will also be getting exclusive in-game content and is the lead system for development. Bungie also showed the gameplay premiere at Sony's E3 conference, while being completely absent from every MS conference. You can bet next year when Activision launches a massive DESTINY marketing campaign, it will have PS4's logo all over it.
Right now DESTINY pre-orders are much higher on PS4 than they are on XB1. DESTINY looks like its going to be one of the biggest new IP's next-gen, possibly even bigger than Halo ever was, since this will be multiplatform. And Bungie even helped Sony design the new Dual Shock 4 controller.
Imagine if those early leaks were true and XB1 got Titanfall and Destiny as exclusives in 2014. The console race right now would look a lot different. Luckily for Sony, that is not the case.
So in retrospect, how big of a megaton was this for Sony? Do you think Bungie changed their minds about being timed-exclusive on XB1, or was it a fake rumor to begin with?
