It isn't. It's more recent than that. And the game it shares a subtitle with is also a bit more recent than Sonic: Lost World.

Hint for #48: In this game, one look at the sky is all it takes to be sufficiently creeped out.

50. Chrono Cross (33)
The sheer number of playable characters in this game is remarkable. Keeping the multiple endings like in Chrono Trigger and the deep stories that tend to come with time travel and parallel dimensions creates a game that you can thoroughly explore multiple times, learning new things each time. The battle system in the game is at the same time familiar and completely new, making it a fresh experience compared to other rpgs. The battles are in some ways a superior predecessor to the system later used in Final Fantasy XIII and offer more chances to strategize with the turn based stamina system. The leveling system also eliminates the ability to over level by capping stats until certain parts of the game, which is nice.
Primarily an RPG player but have interest in any game that will make me think.
Hints for 50 weren't good enough for someone to get it so I'll try being more direct (also because there's less things that could be said about this next one.
Hint for 49: Flying Pancake!!! Second in this dated series.

I'll need way too much time fixing last year's list.

Strikers 1945 II?
I'll add another clue to my #49 before I spill the beans.
#49 - Contrary to popular belief I do accept dead girls. I traverse the world searching for souls to aid me in battle. A great conflict is soon upon us so there's no time to waste.
Sadly my game didn't exactly sell "Platinum" but it did get re-released on a portable console.

I hate to guess another Zelda game. Made two guesses now, two times a hint made me think of a Zelda game. I guess everything makes me think of Zelda now with A Link Between Worlds around the corner. If this is indeed a Zelda game, you'll know which one I'm guessing .

#49: Devil May Cry (PS2)
This game started out as a prototype for a PS2 Resident Evil, but it was deemed too much of a departure from the series to actual fit in the survival horror franchise. As we all know Capcom loves to recycle, so instead of throwing away the prototype it became Devil May Cry. The game follows the half-demon Dante on his quest to slay as many demons as possible to avenge his dead mother (pretty usual stuff).
The game is fast paced, the combat is excellent allowing you to switch between your melee weapon and your guns with ease, it's challenging without being too frustrating. Dante is cocky, arrogant and full of himself and I love it. It's a pleasure to see him deal with monsters 10 times his size by insulting and belittling them. This is the game that introduced me to 3D hack and slash and I still think it's the one with the best combat.
