If I had a penny for every time someone posted that he "brought" a game, I'd probably be able to buy a new game. Now, I'm not a native speaker and I had assumed that in some countries it is completely acceptable to use "bring instead of "buy", but I looked it up and it seems to be just carelessness.

Anyone know why it's such a common mistake? I get the "I could care less" kind of mistakes, because people say that all the time, but does anyone say that they "brought a tv"?

It may be that bought and brought have one letter of difference!

Either way you can say that you bought the game and brought it to your house. Or simply say that you brought a game to your house. I don't see what is wrong with that!

I get that it's just a letter, but I still think it's a unique example of carelessness. It would be less weird if they spelled it wrong, as in bouht, boght, boughtt. I've seen no variations. Just "brought". Some times used in several sentences in one post.

never noticed people saying that tbh :P

Well yeah but it could be laziness, we are in the internet after all! I try to write every post as good as I can but I end up messing most of the time xD. It's natural, like the fact that the 3DS will dominate this holidays xD.

A lot of native England speakers are idiots. They say one thing not realising they are saying the wrong word and then write it out anyway.

Hmm, pie.

i just use the term pirated. its so much cheaper.

This, and I'm definitely a pedant. Maybe you mean on other websites?

Oh, yeah, don't get me wrong. Most of my posts are full of typos, so I'm not judging anyone. What I find peculiar is that from what I've observed, the rest of the post of people who type "brought" has no other mistakes.
