You pay via Credit Card (typically). You sign onto XBL, and subscribe for Gold service.

However, you can also buy cards in stores, and sometimes get better deals once in awhile.

And finally, the best and cheapest way is to buy XBL cards via Ebay from resellers. They have the cheapest deals. Typically, XBL costs $5/mo, but on Ebay, you can get XBL Gold service for $3/mo.

And BTW, Silver (ie marketplace and DLC) is free.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

You get 1 month of gold for free, and I would recommend using the cards fom shops, as when MS has your CC details it's hard to delete them, and they automatically renew your live subs, even if you don't ask them to.

I suggest using pre-paid cards for points and for memberships. If you decide not to use your account, and have a credit card listed, you have to call them to cancel. Otherwise you just let the card run out and you're a free man...
