Sounds like a bunch of BS to me...
The "media group" that is mentioned is this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media-Saturn-Holding_GmbH
My brother in law is working for Real which is a part of the Metro Group that owns the Media-Saturn holding Gmbh.
He told me the exact same thing. He is one of the higher ups and got the memo.
(higher ups no matter if they belong to Metro itself, Real, Media Markt or Saturn get the memo for all of them.)
He told me that neither Real nor Metro are part of this deal it just includes Media Markt and Saturn. (Metro and Real have not enough consumers buying entertainment devices so they are excluded)
Sony plans to bring all the kids/parents to the PS4/Vita to have an advantage over Microsoft. Thats why its targeting potential WiiU owners. Well and of course to weaken the Nintendo brand in Germany.

Sony wants Nintendo out of the hardware business and with the Wii U struggling, Sony seems to be taking advantage of that hoping it will help with the knock out punch.
This seems like a cowards way of battling.

didn't Sony threaten retailers back in the day that they won't let them stock the PS2 unless they dropped the Dreamcast or something?
I don´t think so, Nintendo is not exactlly selling WiiUs like hotcakes or anything.
I do not think this is true.
Why would someone spend money to attract such a small audience?

Back in the day when I asked a "Media Markt" employee about the newly available Dreamcast he told me to just ignore it and bluntly told me to wait for the PS2. At some point there were also some other marketing people that actively tried to persue people to buy the PS2. So it wouldn´t surprise me this new rumor to be true.
