Forums - Sony - The Vita sells badly because it's called 'Vita'.

While smartphones have a big influence, looking at the difference between 3DS ca. 35m and PSV ca. 6m makes clear that there were made very big mistakes on PSVs strategy. Yoshida is the first one that makes the same excuse and he went on record saying this more than one time publicly. To me it´s just making excuses instead of admiting own mistakes and working hard on rectifying the situation.

If you're going to namedrop a man, at least don't lie about his intentions.

"To your question, I was asked during TGS how badly this hurts portable gaming consoles, and my answer was - quite. Quite badly. There's no question. But that's not the only reason, in terms of the installed base - compare it to 3DS. The 3DS is doing much better."

I get it, you want to be cute and symbolic, going all Latin and shit, but seriously, it's still a stupid name.

What if we called the PS4, "Playstation Amour" because it's French for "love"? It's stupid, and people don't understand it, so they don't buy it.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Don't tell us you didn't do it on purpose! Now each time we read "PS4", it will spring to our minds "PS Amour"!
How could you do something so cheesy to us?

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")

Vita sells poorly because it doesn't have the software people expected it to have. The system is almost 2 years old and most of the games you pick up with a Playstation are still absent in new unique iterations. These include but are not limited to GT, GTA, MGS, FF, Tekken, MH, RE, DQ, None of them are even on the horizon. Most of those are from big Japanese firms who would prefer to release on mobile. The one from the west said something ages ago. Given how huge GTA 5 has been I bet a portable version would be a hit especially if online works. I don't know if R* is just slow as balls or if it just didn't pan out.

Sony's current strategy will work out for it eventually. Having $99-$200 "game and watches" with free game subs and uber cheap retro gaming will be alluring to people especially in Japan as well as developing markets. It would just work faster if they had those new unique iterations to lead new interest to the devices. Or Nintendo games, but if VitaTV can sell for 99 today I can see Vita at that price in a year or 2. Impulse purchase price on micro or portable console with vast cheap library and account system.

I get why issues with naming might work for wiiU cause when you say wii and then the U, people might think ur just saying wii and ur retarded for saying the U after it...

But vita? I don't think its a naming issue at all since its a full word that people usually has never heard of

completely off topic I bought one yesterday for my mrs for xmas cost £75 after my discount with 8gb mem card and 10 free games to download....... get in

oooo that's gonna fill up quick especially if you have Plus (which you should cause all the great Vita games get given away free pretty much).  I might get one if the PS4 connectivity is cool and it gets some of my favorite franchises on it (exclusive Ratchet and Clank and of course a GTA would help), but I'm factoring in a 64GB memory card so I won't have to pretty much ever switch them.

giving it the mrs for an xmas present, though i will use it from time to time ;)

This one isn't accurate because you say for 1 3DS game you have 6 PSP games....The 3DS also plays DS games which would give the 3DS a larger total library.  Then you say PSP games look better than 3DS.....that's simply your opinion.  While some do, some don't.  Besides, it's been proven time after time that the game has to be fun.  All the graphics in the world do not alone make a good game.

Yep, that's why I prefere Patapon over NSMB2 and Super Stardust Delta over Yet Another Pokémon game.

Graphics are important. When I compare PSV (OS, game and device) vs. 3DS (OS, game and device) it seems like iPhone vs. Nokia Lumia. So why they have similar price?

Admit eShop is not a piece of art nor an engineering achievement.

At the end of the day my both systems batteries are out of juice. 3DS cold as ice - forgotten. PSV still worm - gathers strength for the next adventure.

Vita means "Life" in latin, ironic isn't it? XD

Actually, the latin word for life is "Vitae". "Vita" is italian.

Anyway, Vita doesn't sell badly because of its name, just like the WiiU.

Ugh. Come on, man. Do some research before you say things like that. The nominative of life in Latin is vita. Vitae is the genative, dative singular and nominative and vocative plural.

Uhm...you're right xD. I actually studied a bit latin about 8 years ago, I guess all my memories are gone by now :P

Sorry if I sounded harsh or something. Doing a PhD in Latin and I keep forgetting tons of things, so don't worry, it's exteremely common.

Sony should have called it psp2.
