Forums - General - American propaganda even greater than stalinist propaganda in 1930s

Tagged games:

What do you mean by greater?

More subtle and less obvious by today's observer?

Better production values?

More widespread?

It is true that the american media presents a pretty narrow view of the world, and a lot of information is misrepresented. You'll see this immediately if you move from one country to the USA. That said, if you go back you will find that American internal affairs are greatly simplified in other countries media as well. In general, my opinion is that American propaganda is mostly driven by the goal of sustaining the idea in the American public that the US is the worlds greatest power.

Communism is the only ideology ever created that's worse than nazism. North Korea should just stop this madness and reunite with South Korea. Would be better for every single one.

The United States and other interventionist nations belonging to the UN won't allow that to happen.  No politician in the US that wants to be re-elected will suggest publicly that we withdraw from the de-militarized zone on the Korean peninsula.  It would be career suicide.  People will say that we don't support the troops and we will be laying off some of the military when they need jobs and to stay employed.  Even though, you know, we've been there since the 1950's and are still there for no apparent reason, with absolutely no end in sight.  Politicians and the military higher-ups will cling to as much power as they can for as long as they can, regardless of whether or not there is any valid reason to do so.

Sad as it is, it's the truth.

This is untrue.

It is the stated goal of successive South Korean governmnets to seek peaceful reunification, a goal the US Government openly (and genuinely) supports.  I will grant you that the US would not relish this occuring in such a way that brings SK under NK control, or brings China down close to the current border between the two Koreas.  But by the same token, China would prefer not to have a US-allied Korea on it's doorstep.  Regardless, the US Military is stretched worldwide, it would actually suit their purposes enormously if they could withdraw from Korea, and have an enlarged and (eventually) strengthened and unified Korea as an ally.

A recent report outlined the need for future planning for reunification after an NK collapse, and was heavily cited in Western media:

http://www.rand.org/pubs/research_reports/RR331.html

I'd like to suggest for a moment that what the US says publicly and what the US does in reality are two different things.  Unfortunately, to your point, we are stretched quite thinly around the world as it is.  It's because we a have a foreign policy of desperately needing to be involved in everyone's business even when it has nothing to do with our national security.  North Korea is not going to launch a nuke at the US.  It's just not going to happen.  If for no other reason than, our retaliation would be to nuke them back within a matter of hours and they would be decimated.  Which they already know, since they're not stupid.

North Korea doesn't need to collapse for the reunification to occur.  Reunification would happen if all allied troops vacated the de-militarized zone and left South Korea and North Korea to decide their own future.  South Korea has a rich, westernized economy, the complete opposite of North Korea, which is poor, has little to no economy, and relies on China's charity to feed their own people.  To put another way, South Korea is more than capable of taking care of themselves.  The peninsula doesn't need to be reunited, it just needs us to not be there.  North Korea hates us and in turn opposes SK precisely because we are still there.  At a stand-still for more than sixty years.  It's a ridiculous waste of time and resources, and we are doing nothing but pro-longing the misery and the agony.   We should spend some of that money here at home.  Re-build our roads and bridges, etc.   You know, use our tax dollars on us instead of the de-militarized zone.

Ehmm... I'm pretty sure that after a unification the Korean government will just tell you: "OK, thanks for the help, now clear the minefields and get the F out of here". It's not like you guys are that almighty and everything depends on your decisions, if the Koreans decide to unite, you won't have anything to say about it. I don't like the idea of a war over there, be it either you, China or South Korea attacking. It would be best if the people of NK just decided to stop this madness, just like people in Poland did. I know it seems impossible, but hey - the USSR falling apart also seemed impossible just a few years ago...

Plus if you moved your forces from Korea maybe you could finally invade that bloody Syria, like you should have already done, instead of letting Russia humiliate you.

I've got an even better idea... how about we just stop invading people and start spending our tax revenue here at home instead of a world empire?  Call me crazy!

EDIT: Sorry for double post!  Won't happen again

You're crazy, it's impossible. The old saying "if you want to keep your peace, get ready for a war" is still absolutely true. Putin is already preparring a second Cold War if you want it or not. Kicking him out of Syria is something you shouldn't think twice about. If you keep being so passive, naive and weak, you're gonna pay a much higher price in the future, there is no way around it.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

1) Use the 'enter' key to break up your posts. For god's sake that would make them so much easier to read. Also don't need to use caps lock so much.

2) Anyone who doesn't believe their country delivers them propaganda is a silly silly fool. Every nation delivers info via media and politicians intended to push their populace into a desired direction.

3) NK has clearly been ruled by a dictator for a long time. That dictator is responsible for their hardships as evidence by even China taking action against NK multiple times.

4) Does US media hype it up as it does on other nations of interest? of course. But anti-US propaganda does the same in an opposite fashion.

I'm lol'ing that you only realised that now.

Gears of War, for example is full of american military clichés. I tend to stay away of such games. The best thing you can do is not buy them/watch them, because they are mainly aimed at the US market. Be it games, series or movies.

Gears of War is also highly unrealistic, and your main target is aliens. Call of Duty, fine, but not Gears. Gears is just plain ole' gorey fun. lol

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Currently Playing: Dark Souls II, South Park
Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.
