Forums - Microsoft - 'Project Spark' lays down 'Star Wars' tracks in latest demo

Team Dakota laid down another Project Spark livestream on Tuesday to showcase some of the musical capabilities in the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows 8 PC game making game. Naturally, this takes a Star Wars tilt.

The livestream opened with community manager Mike Lescault and programmer Eddie Parker showing a showing a short Star Battles cinematic created with an older version of Project Spark. While the cinematic riffs on the Star Wars theme music, it does so with music created completely in-game through the title's sound options.

This was demoed further with the following two samples of a keyboard synthesizer created completely with in-game assets and a demo game of a player running under a music track that results in the Star Wars theme playing. The synthesizer is an intriguing piece of work as the builder used odd bits and pieces of props to create a fully working keyboard that not only plays the correct notes but will record and playback music as well.

With the musical capabilities in Project Spark, players will be able to create their own music-based games or theme music if they are so inclined. There are already a number of sound effect options in the game alpha version of the title beyond simple musical notes with more to come according to Lescault.

The next Project Spark livestream is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 19 at 3 p.m. PDT where Team Dakota will give the Xbox One version of the game a demo to show how Kinect can be used to capture character animations and voice overs.

Those interested in Project Spark should go to the game's official website to sign up for the beta. Windows 8 PC owners will get access first in October followed by Xbox One users in January. There are no plans for an Xbox 360 beta.

This is by far the most interesting new IP of the coming months, maybe even years.

Should give a time, however this game is going to be awesome> I'm going to have no time but to play games.

I planned on waiting till next summer to get the XB1, but i may not be able to wait.

Yes, but this looks like a long term investment in time.  I don't plan to want a XB1, PS4, PS3, 360 all next to the tv long term.  So, have to plan for the future.

There is no rush to be jumping on these next gen consoles. They will be there for 10 years as specified by Sony and Microsoft plus titanfall is also coming to the xbox 360 too which one of the more anticipated titles. So all in all there really is no rush to buy next gen consoles all together.

I get that idea, but I want the other features of the XB1 besides gaming too.  I will move the 360 and PS3 to the basement TV where the Wii already resides.

That sounds more like an excuse rather than an actual reason to buy the console itself. (no offence there)

This game is off the hook. I know my kids (and probably a lot of other people) are gonna be like, what's a Minecraft ? after they get their hands on this. Shit I may even take a crack at it myself. The things that people will create are gonna be so cool. No doubt some new series are gonna pop up on Youtube and blow up.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.
