Bullying stems from bad parenting. Stop hitting your kids (or "slapping"/"spanking" if calling it that makes you feel any better), and they'll stop hitting other kids / their partners / their kids.

I second this. Parenting can be a funny thing.

Reading the comment I see the blame the victim mentality is still strong, plus some 'innocent' jokes, which is how it always starts. Bullying isn't going away any time soon. Being fat is not a reason to get picked on, period, end of story, no justification whatsoever.
In most of the experiences I had with bullying it was actually the 'fat' kids that were the bullies. Not easy as a 10 year old to fight of a kid twice your size. And in 1 case it was the whole class turning on one girl, just because she joined halfway during the year. Group mentality, great thing, not.
The latest experience has been with my nephew. He is slightly autistic, nothing he can do about it (I don't even notice it myself) Other then that he functions normally. Yet easy target at school. At first the school didn't do anything. He didn't want to go to school anymore, rather stayed home crying. His mother raised hell at his school for years to get them to pay more attention to him. It was no use. Now he has been re-re-re-evaluated, got the full stamp of autism, and can now join a special school for autistic children. Pushed into a corner for being slightly different.

Welcome to the internet age. You're experiencing it right now.
And just because bullying has existed for an age, doesn't mean in our "enlightened modern civilization" that we can't/shouldn't take steps to curb it and teach kids/people to be better in the future. It is the apathetic attitude of so many that "that's just how things are, they'll never change" as an excuse to never affect change, that is the biggest reason for change never occuring.

Her eating issue maybe worsened or even caused by bullying, it can be a viscous cycle for little kids
