Your premise is incorrect.   The fact is, Nintendo is in absolutely no danger of dying.   Besides the fact that they have a market capitalization of over $15 billion, they also have somewhere between $8-$10 billion in cash on hand, not to mention the fact that 3DS sales are actually up year over year, and that's before the new model revision comes to market in October, along with a new Pokemon and Zelda.

Not to mention we are two weeks away from a significant Wii U price drop and bundled with a Zelda game, before the start of the holiday season.

Trust me, if Nintendo were in any danger, I would be the first to say so.  But you can't let alarmists worry you.  Those types are speaking only of short-term gains they want to see the company make, they care nothing for the long-term competitiveness of the company.  Which is something that would be negatively impacted by allowing their IP on others' platforms.   Nintendo has to make money from hardware and software combined, the company we all know and love would cease to exist as we know it, if they stopped making hardware.

This has to be the best reply here . I never doubted Nintendo but this is the first generation I am actually reading news about gaming. It kinda worries me but you seem to know your stuff!

We shouldn't focus on doom articles! Instead we should be supporting Nintendo! This weekend I'm off to buy a Wii U xD.

Not for a few more generations of repeated costly failed products. However, it actually requires a FIRST financially failed product... let me know when that happens.

With all the gloom and doom it seems that Nintendo is crashing down, or so people say. The pressure from smartphones and tablets are said to be the final nail in the coffin for Nintendo's handheld. Also the Wii U is doing very bad...

So when is this going to happen? When is is that Nintendo will die for good? And what would you doo if it was true?

Personally I wouldn't spend as much money on gaming... I would slowly quit gaming forever.

I thought that the final nail in the coffin was for Apple to enter the console race.
So many "final nails" that I've read, but I have yet to see a coffin for Nintendo. Not while they have their loyal fanbase.

I have faith that Nintendo will come out of this but the Doom this days is heavy...

Nintendo will be always doomed. It's the same since the Sega Genesis launched. I don't care anymore lol. Just enjoying their games as long as it is possible.

Good man :).  Wait until the price drop on the 20th, though.  Wind Waker HD bundle for $299 :)

I would love to do it but these kind of bundles never make it to my country . I will be sure to pick the game though, I love the Zelda franchise

Nintendo is at about $4.7 billion in cash and cash equivalents.

So far for the calendar year the 3DS is down YoY in both sales and shipments.  If VGC numbers are to be believed it has fallen further behind in recent weeks, it was averaging 200k+ a week in August last year.  Monster Hunter and Pokemon will certainly do their parts to turn it around, but Nintendo was forecasting a 29% increase for the fiscal year.  Starting from behind isn't the best way to reach that goal.

I doubt they'll cease to exist anytime soon, and they'll probably merge/get bought up by another company instead of merely vanishing. Apple Nintendo anyone?

BAH ! I would even prefer Sony-tendo to such a travesty !

It would probably be the day I no longer called myself a gamer--just a guy who plays games once in a while. I would continue to buy other systems when they get cheap in order to play the few games I like on them, but for the most part I wouldn't have much of a reason to be a part of the gaming community anymore.

Although at this rate, indie gaming would be ridiculously huge by then, so I guess I can't say for sure. Maybe I would just invest in a better PC, not just to play big AAA's, but mostly for indie titles. They tend to offer more Nintendoesque experiences anyway. But things would be different, that's for sure.
