Would buy something like that! Isn't Microsoft working on VR too? Project forteleza or something?

isnt that more like that google glass thing?

i'd honestly probably prefer a more google glass like device than full VR.  looks less stupid and no one can punch me in the face without me seeing it coming.  augmenting a game ala heavy rain style overlays could be awesome honestly.

yeah the VR has one HUGE downside is that you are NOT aware of anything around you. which if an emergency happened could be a really serious issue. however i dont see what the Google Glass type of thing can really add

with a bit of imagination AR could add more than VR imo.

VR is like a standard TV expect that it is A) 3D (which has already proved to have no gameplay additions) and B) fully surround vision.  That would be epic in some sense,. the immersion would be awesome but i think most would find it too much of a turn off.

AR on the other hand could do watch dog like interfaces..

or even better,. murder similators...

The concept of VR is really cool, but so far nothing is impressive enough to make it worth it. And I don't expect the PS4 to pull it off. Maybe the PS5.

One could actually produce VR headsets that have two cameras, one in front of each eye, so what the user would see without the headset could be fed to the eye as well. That way, VR headsets could be used for both, virtual reality AND augmented reality.

But I agree, in the end, augmented reality/Google Glass-type hardware has little use for traditional gaming anyway.

@kitler53: You're wrong about VR headsets. It's not just "Like a 3D-capable TV with Surround Sound".  First of all, unlike watching a TV, the visuals completely fill one's field of vision, which makes for a much more realistic experience. And of course the headtracking is extremely important as well - rotate your head to the right, and what you'll see is exactly what your brains expects.

When it comes to delivering the most realistic virtual reality experience possible (and that's what many games are trying), nothing beats VR headsets.

Maybe you haven't seen the following video, which demonstrates the single best reason why VR headsets will bomb:

IF VR ever really catches on we'll never see our teenagers at the dinner table again.

And sitting there eating with VR headsets on won't count.

it was obvious sony are working on something like this. its the next big step in gaming if you ask me, imagine playing this with the last of us, with that atmosphere this would have been insane. i really hope this is true

And it's obvious Sony is making this after someone was the pioneer, like always xD

The first AR HMD was created in 1968.

Which just goes to show how big a gap there is between an invention and developing it into a successful product. I'd give full credit to Sony if they could do it, but I doubt this is it.

Agreed.
