Forums - Gaming - How can Sony (home) consoles sell more on average than Nintendo (home) consoles if Sony steals Nintendo's ideas?

The whole stealing ideas thing is mostly ridiculous. Its like someone saying dual analoge stick controller wouldn't exits without sony introducing the Dual shock, or anlogues on consoles would never exits if it wasnt for the n64, or that triggers wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the ps1 controller, or that without the gameboy mobile gaming would never exist. Its all just fanboys being shortsighted.

The industrt is forever evolving and of course each players acknowledg new innovations and improvements.

Because of the third parties and their determination to spite Nintendo.

Not a joke, one hundred percent serious, and anyone who hasn't gotten it by now isn't going to get it, so discussion is impossible, but it still needs to be said.

eloborate?

Just because the wii U doesn't recieve support doesn't mean they hate nintendo?

When Sony first entered the market they allowed anything and everything to be put on their consoles. PS3 is the first console to break that trend which is why its also the first of their consoles to remain in last place most of this gen.
This allowed them to get a huge following of casual gamers that became dedicated PS fans and Sony knows this. They even said before the PS3 launch that their fans didn't know what was best for them and needed Sony to tell them and that millions of them would buy a PS3 regardless of anything else.
Sony does have a habit of trashing something Nintendo does only to copy it later on. It's seen as innovation because a good portion of the fan base doesn't know anything about other platforms.

Also this trend is over. Sony will never see their PS1 and PS2 days again. My guess is PS4 will be their last console, Vita will be their last portable, and they wont try making another gaming phone again and just stick to be a 3rd party chip provider for phones.

I also wouldn't call their products inferior to what Nintendo has to offer. Excluding the PS1 and PS2 which had huge hardware issues, even leading to a class action lawsuit in the case of PS2, the functionality of their products is just as good as Nintendo. Move isn't inferior to the Wii remote, its just not any better either.

I will guess that you are correct.  I doubt any of the consoles will sell more than 50-60 million this generation.  Even though most people will disagree, the only one that has a chance to do so is M$.  I say that because they are the only one with something that could catch on with the casuals and take off.  Will that happen?  Probably not, as it is more of a lightning in bottle type thing, but it is obvious that is what they were hoping with the design.  It's also obvious, people in general on this site like to ignore the tablet/smartphone markets.  The impact of these markets will DRAMATICALLY impact gaming systems from 2015 and beyond.  By the end of 2015, most of the mid priced tablets/high end smartphones will be running similar powered tech to the PS360.  With their capabilities to connect to tv's, and their ability to truely take the experience mobile and back again, what is the real need for a gaming only system that has a little bit better graphics?  Remember, the core gamers will already have purchased their consoles by then.  Also, the high end tablet market is already taking off right now.  The high end tablets feature gaming pc specs.  2 years from now, they will far exceed anything the consoles can do.

Just another thought to add to your spot on comment.

Idk what you're talking about. PS all stars and PSmove bombed

Maybe you should check the definition of "bomb". Both underperformed. Neither bombed.

OT: Ninty has more popular characters, which definitely helps, as they can't copy that. However, Sony offers more variery than Ninty. The overall package is better, hence the sales.

Sony are just as bad as Samsung. Stealing the general form factor of anything is cruel and disgusting in the world of business.

Ugh. I hate it when a whole topic is based on a logical fallacy. Take your opponent's argument to a ridiculous extreme to discredit it. Sony does not follow Nintendo in everything. They do take quite a few ideas and copy them in blatant ways.

As for the answer to the question, third party support and media playback.

It's not a logical fallacy, since I did say I've seen "quite a few" users say that. Think of this as a thread designed for the people who think what I wrote.

So you make an illogical and obviously baiting thread based on 5-10 people's illogical notions?

Don't take dumb and then make it dumber.  It's just bad form.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

The description in that evaluation thread has never been more apt.

Complaining about companies copying ideas just drives me crazy. That's how companies work; they take good ideas from other companies and then use it themselves. If they didn't only Sony would have disks instead of cartridges (I assume they were 1st), only Microsoft would have such a robust online, and only Nintendo would have handhelds, etc. If a company has a idea that enhances games and makes them better, but another company doesn't, then what's the problem with the 2nd company going with it? I don't see one. For example, If Kinect turns out to be an absolutely amazing feature that makes games much much better then Sony better come out with one of their own. I don't want to miss out on the possibilities of what Sony developers could do with it. Also, then 3rd parties would be more apt to make games that use it if they can make them for more than one system.

Does Sony copy ideas at times? Duh, all companies do. Some do a little more often than others. I think Sony is in a cycle where they don't want to spend too much money researching a completely new product (that is untested in the market) when what they have is working fine, and I'm ok with that. I'll enjoy playing games on a "boring, unoriginal" console any day of the week if the games are good.

As to the OP: completely unrelated. You can copy someone, and still be more successful than them. Or you can copy someone, and be less successful. Sales prove nothing in this case.

...there is still a debate over Sony copying the competition ?...come on folks, the subject is settled

15 million PS moves sold beg to differ

Wow, there's still people branding this thing as a success, who would've guessed. Anyways, how do those compare against the 150m+ Wiimotes in circulation?

you clearly dont understand what the term bombed means. 15 million sales speak for them selfs, in no way did that "bomb". check what you say before you say it first
