Forums - Gaming - What does Sony/soft need to do to finally take Nintendo out this Gen?

Never going to happen, fortunately. Nintendo's first party is just so huge.
An interesting idea though would be to put sony games on nintendo consoles. Introduce some competition into their market and try to grab as much software sales as possible.

I'd probably buy some Sony games on a Nintendo system.

Sony needs to first worry about making profits. Survival first, worrying about gaming domination second.

Bahahahahaha! That's too much. They made a profit off the GC and I highly doubt WiiU will sell that abysmal by the end of it's cycle (50 Million low end, imo).

Sony made a profit by selling buildings.

They are branching out into the real estate industry.

I don't think they are even trying. It's not like they are direct competitors anymore. Sony is busy enough fighting Microsoft. Also Shu likes Reggie. :P

This. For some reasons the true balance of the market, even if not granted, is more likely with three players. Fighting just against MS could become a bloodbath for both Sony and Ninty, so they won't try to kill each other. OTOH, MS is mighty, but not very nimble, and even if it could kill the weakest competitor with a price war, it won't, just like it didn't before, because both Sony and Ninty, if killed, could be taken over by some Japanese giant corp and become a far more dangerous foe. Moreover, in the short term, MS is still learning both from successes and failures of its competitors in gaming market, it still has one more reason to hope they stay alive.

I love how this "What does Sony and Microsoft need to do to finally take Nintendo out this Gen?" turned into "What does Sony need to do to finally take Nintendo out this Gen?"

I do not mean "Make them go under", but just out of the systems race. Only a 3rd party developer.

once Sony saw that the PS was able to stomp the N64, they did their damndest to knock Nintendo out with the PS2, but Sony was doing this by themselves. Even then they nearly accomplished this by making the GC a huge disassster.

Now Sony has Microsoft to help take Nintendo down.

But what steps do they need to take? what do they need to go right for them to make this happen?

You're stupid. Nintendo showed to everyone in the 80s and 90s that video games could be sold as profit to the masses.  Without Nintendo, the playstation would not exist.

Yes, the playstation 1 and 2 outsold the n64 and gamecube, mostly because of Sony being a much larger company than Nintendo (more advert $$), and having a much larger base worldwide. But the PS3 was annihilated by the Wii.  Explain that?  Wii was much weaker hardware wise. Maybe it's because Nintendo is the industry innovative leader.

All other companies piggy-back onto nintendo.
Examples:
1)  Multiple game genres Nintendo made popular (2D and 3D Platforming with Mario, third person adventure game- Zelda 64, Kart Racing games- Mario Kart, Party games-Mario Party).  Sony and Microsoft LITERALLY release hundreds of variations of these games.
2)Hardware innovations: Gamecube wireless controllers (then come xbox 360, ps3 controllers), Analog Joystick from the N64 (then comes ps2 and xbox controllers), Wii motion controls (Sony Move, Xbox kinect),

the list goes on and on. I don't want to keep typing.

Fact is: Even though the PS1 might have outsold the N64. Who cares? I don't remember a single game that the PS1 came out with that me or my friends still play.  EVERYONE knows about Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros, diddy kong racing, Goldeneye 007.

Gameplay in general hasn't changed much since Nintendo reinvented the 3d game industry with the N64. Most games are clones of ones we have already played. The PS4 and XB1 are continuing this trend.  Yes the Wii wasn't the best console serious gamers. But guess what, my parents and other parents I knew played with it.  They never touch any other game console

Finally, Nintendo has BILLIONS of dollars stored in reserve for them to stay financially stable for a long time. I didn't even mention the handheld markets in this post, where they have destroyed many companies with the game boy, and are continuing the trend with the 3DS. Not only that, but Microsoft is at Sony's throat because they basically release the same types of systems to the same  type of consumer demographic. Nintendo is more family friendly aimed design.

WOW, what a bunch of boased dribble. One minute you say sales don't matter, the  next they do with the wii?

So, because only you remember games from N64, that means ps1 games were crap? Resident evil, Grand theft Auto, Metal Gear, Final Fanatsy 7 were HUGE, and are still big sellers today, FF 7 is still amongst the top downlaods on Steam and PS. Playstation gave birth to the mature 3d gaming craze we see today, nintendo abandoned it and are still stuck in 1998. Your saying no one remembers GTA? FF7? Resident evil? LMAO. Tahst just the tip of the iceberg. the PS1 library destroyed the n64.

Nintendo WAS an leader, they have not been for a very long time...

nintendo has like 10 bill in the bank they can continue failing for gens to come
