Forums - Gaming - So PS4 Is Basically Going To Win This Gen, Right?

@richardhutnik

Make a poll--even on VGC, tho it will be skewed more toward KZ bc the large Sony fanbase--asking which multiplayer looks better between Titanfall and KZ Shadowfall. Even on VGC, I'd be surprised if Tiranfall didn't destroy KZ in that poll if ppl are making any attempt to be honest.

This is coming from a person who enjoyed FPS multiplayer for the first time with KZ3's multiplayer (COD, halo, etc. all boring to me). Titanfall isn't just COD with mechs. Its way more interesting, way more fluid, way more varied.

pitzy problem with that argument is Titanfall will be on PS4 that is pretty much a guarantee Killzone will never be on Xbone.

And its the reason why Tifanfall has won more awards at E3 and other shows than any other upcoming game-especially next gen game

When I first saw this thread I was like "Wow I need to post here so I can visit this later for the lolz" It is absolutely crazy to think Sony won so easily. That is just looking at common wisdom and predicting from there but that is wrong.
First of all I recently looked at the PS4 launch titles. Out of all the launch titles there are only TWO exclusives. It will share its titles with more than just Xbox 1, it shares it with EVERYONE! Why would anyone buy a PS4 at launch? Killzone is the only big game. The wii u had a stronger launch. It had 2D mario! The strongest system seller in the world.

XBox 1 has the same problems but has more exclusives so I won't repeat here

Wii U has nothing for the holidays. Only system seller is DKC and 3D mario. Mario kart and smash should hold it up for 2014 but I expect nothing good out of 2015. So Wii U should win 2014 but not anything beyond.

I would also like to point out that every sony system has launched worse then the last since PS2
PS2>PSP>PS3>PSV
It also applies to all consoles since wii
Wii>3DS>PSV

Also the economic depression that is going on should hurt sales ALOT
Anyway that was fun. I just wanted to get that out there

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

@cmeese

Yeah, but when? That's the problem. If we were talking a couple months--and I really hope(wish) we were-- I'd agree with u; but, the common thought is that it will be 6mos or more before ps4 sees Titanfall, and that's just too much time for this to NOT make a difference for XBO. Like I said, Sony is crazy if they're not doing everything in their power right now to get Titanfall on ps4 as soon as possible relative to the XBO version release date.

Too soon to tell. Anything can happen between launch and the end of the cycle. Look how the PS3 turned around. I will admit though, Sony seems to be putting the right steps in place for the system Hopefully they continue.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

probably.

But i think one console domination is very bad for industry.
the perfect scenario lies in 25~40% market share to all consoles.
20~45% is good
a single console with more than 50% of market, battleing with 2 others, i think is very bad.
i hope:
ps4: 45%
wii U 20%
One: rest.
In 300 mil market, it translates:

ps4: 135 mil
One: 105 mil
Wii U: 60 mil

would be good for industry.

I am inclined to agree, but I don't see that happening.  I could see the PS4 reaching 135m, but there is no way the Wii U will reach 60m or that the Xbox One will reach 105m with its tiny market (Comparably).   Right now I would guess:

PS4:  100-150m

Xbox One: 25-75m (Hard to say at this point, it all hinges on Kinect)

Wii U: 20-40m.

But keep in mind I don't think this gen will last longer than 5-6 years so keep that in mind with my predictions....

Soundwave you make a lot of baseless claims: what are the proofs exactly that games like Wii Sports or Wii Fit won't sell well? What are the proof that casual gamers won't buy any new consoles when the right games will be released? I don't see any. It's like people assuming handhelds and 3DS especially were dead because of smartphone and that didn't happen. Now games like AC or Tomodatchi for example even sell really well to the casual gamers that the same people assumed will never buy such a device anymore. So there is really nothing to back up your assertions.

I still think WiiU will dominate next gen: Nintendo has sold 100 millions consoles with very little support for hardcore games from third parties and there is no reason for this to happen agian this time. Even if WS and WF don't sell as well as the previous iterrations of these series this is a huge difference. The WiiU line up this fall is also by far the best one of all three console and 2014 is also at least as impressive.

The fact that Brain Training 3DS, Nintendogs + cats, Nintendo Land, Game & Wario have had a tiny fraction of the success of Wii/DS blue ocean games does not bode well for Wii Sports/Fit.

3DS has taken a massive hit from the smartphone/tablet business, the Vita has been practically rendered moot entirely, the gaming handheld business has shrunk tremendously. Depsite Nintendo throwing a $80 price reduction and every Mario game + Animal Crossing + some decent third party support + a model revision, the 3DS is behind the DS and GBA in sales at equivalent points in its lifespan and it's a gap that grows larger every month, not smaller.

The Wii U is nothing like the Wii anyway -- it doesn't have a controller that's making people go crazy over it, and without that it's just a GameCube successor that's very late to the HD generation.

It's not a serious threat to Sony just yet, unless Nintendo starts taking risks with new types of software. They don't need sequels to Wii Sports/Fit they need the *next* Wii Sports, unfortunately Angry Birds and Plants Vs. Zombies and things like that are the actual successors to the casual gaming fads.

ps4 doesn't have a controller that's making people go crazy for either, the rest of the bolded is plain trolling.

3 generation in a row with the same controller and the least they have achieve is a 80 million console sold worldwide so yeah, they don't need a new controller to suceed.  On the other hand, this is the first time nintedo reach 100 million console sold and guess what? this is the first time they tried with a totally new controller experience.

NES, SNES, N64, GAMECUBE: traditional controler, no more than 60 million

WII: new controller experience, 100 million

PS, PS2, PS3: same controller,  the worst one: 80 million and counting

so yeah, sony don't need a completely new controller.

I don't think saying the PS4 will come out on top is shortsighted really.

Out of the gate, it is going to take the lead. Maybe Wii U battles it off until spring, but that's at the latest. So say around summer 2014. PS4 is in the lead, with either Xbox or Wii U trailing.

Unless Kinect 2 someone makes waves, Xbox will probably not catch up to PS4. A system that will worse versions of most of the same games while being more expensive will not attract that many gamers. Unless Microsoft changes their strategy to getting/making as many exclusives as they can, I really don't see them surpassing Sony for a long while. Sony is going to have more exclusives. It's almost guaranteed. Those exclusives will stretch late into it's lifecycle. If PS4 gets an early lead, Xbox won't be able to outstretch PS4 to beat it.

That leaves Wii U. Many people are pegging it as a failure already, but I think it has a chance for second place. A price cut will happen eventually, and when it does, Wii U will look very attractive to casuals and families. Nintendo's lineup this holiday may be lacking, but come next holiday, Wii U will be a cheaper system with a huge library full of very high profile exclusives as well as plenty of bundles. I honestly see the Wii U beating out the X1. Microsoft's console will always be more expensive, always require money to do anything online, and will never have near as many exclusives.

I predict PS4 to win with Wii U in second and X1 trailing both of them.

Pretty much this.  So far it seems that the PS4 might "Saturn" the X1 (though on a much smaller scale). It does seem that the PS4 has an advantage over the X1 on every single front with a few exceptions, but to be fair to the X1.  We need to see the games for ourselves to judge if the PS4 will clearly have an advantage and the overall amount of exclusives and hardware sales. The Wii U could very well have a second chance but it's going to be very reliant on how the next couple of months play out.

Way too early to tell. It's looking promising for Sony but I think that's the best anyone can really say at this point. I can see Microsoft pulling things together again and maybe something big coming out on Kinect to pull the casuals in. Not sure about Nintendo though TBH, I don't think the gamepad has worked out the way they wanted and they are kind-of stuck with it.

Way too early to tell is the only way to put it.  Pre-orders mean jack.  I have 3 pre ordered.
