Thinking that the PS3 won't finish first... lol. Dude, come on - be serious for a bit

i am serious dude. think about it. the generation is practically over. how is Sony supposed to sell 20 million consoles? especially since the successor is right around the corner. unless a PS2-PS3 co-existence situation happens, where the PS3 kicks the PS4's ass for a while, and i don't think Sony is stupid enough to let that happen, since they are making the PS4 to be the anti-PS3.

The same way they have always sold 20M+ when a generation was over?

I would bet money on it yeah, but to what extent I don't know.

Sony will do very well at launch and almost certainly through the first year.

The problem is that console wars are not determined by the battle that is the launch. I have a firm conviction that next-gen sales will taper off across the board quickly after launch as the "this isn't that different" realization sinks in. It's hard to say who'll actually benefit from this, and how much.

Not with Illumi-room around the corner. I think games on XBox One are also factor.  Also lets not forget your getting some bang for you buck with MS. Motioin controls,  Cloud service and PS4 online is not free anymore. Sorry I don't think it's just that easy.

You really think this is coming soon? It looks pretty expensive (and not very user friendly to have a projector in the middle of the room). I would be very tempted by it though.

If I had to guess, it's more likely that it is just misdirection. The leaked documents talk about the Fortaleza glasses coming next year, then their Gaikai equivalent coming 2015. That was as far as the roadmap went, so Illumiroom must be 2016 at the earliest.

PSN: Osc89

NNID: Oscar89

Lets not get cocky here now, its to early to say...

Well Sony had a helluva come back over the years to re-take second place and the original Wii kinda fell off the face of the earth the last yearish before the Wii U was out in terms of sales. The vita was hyped beyond hell on "the internet" and look what happended.

I think anything is possible. Being $100 more expensive does not help MS. The Wii U is the cheapest console on the market even with all It's shortcomings. If the Wii U doesn't do better this holiday I think it will go PS4>XB1>Wii U, but again anything is possible.

It's just that simple.

probably.

But i think one console domination is very bad for industry.
the perfect scenario lies in 25~40% market share to all consoles.
20~45% is good
a single console with more than 50% of market, battleing with 2 others, i think is very bad.
i hope:
ps4: 45%
wii U 20%
One: rest.
In 300 mil market, it translates:

ps4: 135 mil
One: 105 mil
Wii U: 60 mil

would be good for industry.

However, discounting Nintendo and assuming it's "Sony vs. MS" is also rather silly.

I actually disagree.

I believe that Nintendo has been in a steady death spiral since 2010.   Not the company itself, but it's relevance within console sales.  People here don't like  to hear about the Wii being a fad, but that's precisely what it was.  It was a fad,  not a gaming phenomenon or permanent gaming platform.  It was priced dirt cheap and provided an experience people never saw before.  It provided an excellent secondary console to many hardcore gamers and brought in casual gamers to a degree.  The Wii U,  quite frankly doesn't bring anyting new to the table and doesn't do practically anything the others don't.

The reasons the PS4 will win this generation are simple.

1.) Price

2.) Early momentum

These two factors can only be de-railed if Sony has a complete dirth of games. (I'd place that probability of that as 100% unlikely).

The other factor is that the PS4 will control the US this generation (Price being a huge factor).   The other factor is remebering that Xbox 360 owner are ready for an upgrade.  Their console is a year older than the PS3 and is showing more age at this point.  A cheaper entry console with arguably more power?  Easy choice and will be an easy choice for parents too.

They will win for two reasons, number one Japan. Sony in the first 3 months in Japan will sell more units than XBONE will in the life of the console.

Two games, Sony was way behind in this race and the amount of great games the company pumped out especially when compared to the limited offerings from Microsoft gave them a significant advantage.

Illumi-room has no price point or even certainty it will be coming out.  No one can even say now how huge of demand for it will be, particularly without knowing a price point. In addition, it is not bundled it.

The bang for the buck you talk about has nothing to do with the PS4's costs or not.  And you would have to seriously show how much superior what the ONE is doing is better online than what the PS4 will offer, without some presumptive aura of the past being hinted at.
