Forums - Gaming - Are graphics really going to be that much better next gen?

I'm just wondering are graphics really going to be that much better next gen. I'm sure they'll be somewhat better, but nothing mind blowing. I think this is going to be the smallest graphical leap we've had in some time. Don't get me wrong,I'm hoping to jump on the nextgen bandwagon at least a year after launch, but I want specific examples of how graphics are going to improve next gen. I'm not a tech guy,so if you give me examples, please dumb them down for the average consumer. I think some of these next gen games look somewhat better, but nothing that blows my mind. Please, help a simpleton understand all of this!!!!!

yes, we all need more powa, 16k games etc

By the end if this gen the graphics will be a lot better, but yeah I agree, the gap gets smaller each time.

with 4k T.V. like graphics!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now serious: No. Gameplay is important as well, but if we can have both...

It will be alot better by the end of the generation. Just look at the beginning of this gen and compare it to now. Launch games on next gen already look better then current like with killzone sf, ryse, and infamous ss especially looks just gorgeous to name a few.

Considering the PS4 can't even play BF4 in 1080p... :P
(For all that is holy, don't take this post seriously :P)

Every single gen, people always think and say things like this.

The truth is, yes. In 5 years these launch games will look like crap.

Won't be as big as PS2 to PS3 (hard to trump SD to HD and the 16:9 video ratio), but it's still going to be significant. Look how much better current games look than the launch titles for the PS360. The fact the PS4 and XBO's launch titles already look vastly improved from the current gen is a good indicator of what is to come.

yes they will, but they need some time.

mindblowing? no chance!
Even if a game looks as good as the best cgi movie it would not be considered as mindblowing as people got used to it.
In the last gen people used to appreciate good graphics but this comming gen they are more looking for the flaws and criticize them because now graphics are considered to compete with reality(I guess this is part of the uncanney valley effect)
