they have done a great job and it was needed. even tho i love my ps3 and the price is awesome in the USA right now, they need to be at wii levels sales in order to get the good games. i hate it when wii gets games from sony just because it would look better and play better since wii motion controls are ify at best.

i like the normal controls and if wii is number one this gen and gets all the games ill have to spend money on more movies i guess. and of course i own all 3 plus the portables and enjoy them all but my ps3 is the best and most played at my house

It turns out that this whole process has been carried out specifically for the PS3. Sony will begin using this chip, acccording to the article. Seems that a "Slim PS3" isnt too far away after all.

We may see it by the end of the year. It saves sony huge amounts of money, will sell to many more consumers, so I guess the question is why not. Now it seems that the price will hit $299 by years end for sure and possibly hit $250 the following year.

45nm means higher success rate when creating the cell, less heat reduction costs, on top of the 45nm cell costing less to create itself.
Add to that the much smaller diode created by Sony itself, and you get a compact, low heat, relatively less expensive, more reliable console.

Hopefully people don't bash this success and instead celebrate the fact that everyone will soon be able to afford this extremely powerful console, whether you have another next-gen system or not.

This is great, the sooner the price drops, the sooner i can big up My PS3, i have been waiting a long time, out here in the UK, the ps3 is £299m still a little too much, drop it by 50 and its mine

Actually, it's no more impressive then what they do on a daily basis across all there electronics divisions. It’s just more public here, as the price of the PS3 is so high. On the PS2, PS1, TV’s, Receivers, whatever, they are, and were, this aggressive. But it’s to make a profit, not to lower the price.

We care a lot less when it’s just for Sony’s benefit ;)
