Forums - Gaming - Alan Wake and many others Undertracked. VGC's innaccuracy

I was looking up Alan Wakes numbers a little bit ago and I noticed that the numbers were completely wrong. The Alan Wake Franchise has sold more than 3 million copies.  Coming straight from Remedy themselves.  Without PC numbers, or Digital numbers VGC's accuracy is going to be horrible.  Especially as these things are becoming more popular.  This is just one of MANY examples that VGC needs to find a way to start tracking digitally.  It may not be possible at the moment but as we progress in the coming years I would really start taking the numbers on this site with a grain of salt.

VGC's not inaccurate. They already tell you they don't track digital. There's no realistic way for them to either short of agreements with publishers, that they won't get.

Without Digital the numbers will always be inaccurate is my point.  The physical side of things may be relatively accurate but digital is becoming more popular and at times taking 20-50% of the total sales.  Who knows how much steam sells but im betting it is a lot.

Everyone here knows that VGC (and NPD, and every other tracking service) will become obsolete within a few years when software sales become mostly digital. Do you really think that's a novel point?

Yes I do.  If they can not track accurately then this site will slowly dwindle in quality.  Many people on this site has visited and joined because of the numbers.  The more inaccurate they become the less people join.

On the plus side this site has developed into a quality forum, but most people go to places like Gaf for that.  Weekly numbers is what makes this site unique and will be judged primarily on it's accuracy.

The revenue ioi gets from visitors is very small once hosting costs are subtracted. This site stays up because of the VGC Pro members.

You're acting entitled because you believe forum users are valuable, but we are not. Your judgement of the site's accuracy doesn't do anything.

To give you an example about how bad ad revenue is, Reddit is the 39th most visited site in the US, has only 28 employees, has other sources of revenue like Gold, and is still losing money right now.

Entitled?

Ok, I'll ask you then.  Do you see this as a problem for the future of VGC? (This includes ioi as he is VGC)

Of course!

Do I think we have some kind of right to accurate numbers, or to make him fix it? No.

That is all I'm saying.  Im not sitting here with a gun to his head saying fix the numbers.  I am pointing out that "if" it is not dealt with then this place could fall eventually.

I've heard a rumor that VGC may work with MrStickBall for digital numbers so hopefully that happens.

A stunning revelation.
