Odd statement coming from someone with a 360 gamer tag. You realize JL is basing WiiU's success on the assumption that PS4/PS3/XB1/360/PC and mobile gaming at large all collapse totally leaving Nintendo as the lone player (which is not a healthy environment for game developers) |
It sounds crazy but I like it.
The only game I enjoyed on my Xbox 360 was Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary for nostalgic reasons. The rest are meh. Even GTA screwed it up. I hope they get it right with GTA 5 so I can at least enjoy one more game on the 360 before I go strictly Wii U.
Wii U Nintendo Network ID, Borode
XBOX Live ID, Borode

There are people who may play a game casually. Casual = 30-something Soccer Mom with the minivan in the suburbs. No, it's BS. It's pure BULL (I wish I could say the real word). On the same token there are some young 20-something year old males who play Madden casually. But the "cartoony" game is supposed to be Casual & the "realistic" game is supposed to Hardcore, right? Hell, Animal Crossing is more based in realism than the football fantasy known as Madden. Wii didn't sell to "casuals". It sold to EVERYBODY. Nintendo IS the Core. The Core, the Heart, & the Soul of the Videogame Industry. The PS360 wouldn't even have the not-yet 80 million sales in 8 years time that they have had they not emulated the REAL Gamer's Choice, the Wii. Just meet me here at the end of the year. |
Oh likewise, because you've still not explained what is going to turn around the WiiU, just a bunch of hot air. It's not going to ship 8 million in the last 3 months, it's laughable.
Move did not doublee PS3 numbers, are you freaking kidding? And 360 catapulted when the Slim released, the Kinect was popular yes, but it just gave the 360 an extended life. (nothing to do with copying Nintendo, since when did Wii have a camera and controller less gaming?)
When I use core and casual I use them in absoloute basic terms, I realise their are many subsections of gamers. The truth is though that the "gamers" the Wii attracted to are the weakest and least loyal of the lot and have moved onto Smartphones and tablets. The ones that stuck around for PS360 are not interested in WiiU, it does NOT offer what they want, third prty games, decent online, tech.
Why don't you outline, without all the uneccesery hyperbole, what exactly is going to turn WiiU around this holiday?
I guarantee you thought WiiU was going to bolt out of the gate, shame you didn't predict sooner so you could be proven wrong and put this nonsense to bed.
I'll do it!
Games!
Also, JL, watch it, I like Cheeze-Itz!
Bookers need to include the video game industry in their betting markets.
Imagine placing a bet with odds of 30,000/1 on Wii U selling 240 million and winning it.
I joined just to tell you this is a excellent article you really shined some light on some things I felt were not quite right.

Vegas might be a good place for this. I went to hunt down the link to intrade, which is a prediction market, and see they have run into legal troubles:
http://www.intrade.com/v4/home/
Outside of legally, there is nothing that prevents someone from doing a prediction market for videogame stuff. I can fire off a message ot ioi to see if Brett would want to run one here.
A thread to discuss the idea is here:

Actually I'm in the same boat. Was excited (but ultimately disappointed) to play Mass Effect and Dragon's Age on 360. Aside from a little Batman and some sports games with my step-son I never use it. Maybe for GTA V.
I've no interest in WiiU though.

In the 1980s, when the videogame market crashed, and left Atari with just the 2600, the market shrunk like 90%. John Lucas presumes market collapses, and companies leave, but the demand remains near the same level. 240 million is around what we have now with all 3 systems. NO WAY will the market be at 240 million lifetime sold, if Nintendo is only one left. That is what contraction means. It means a smaller market, and less choices. People rooting for such a collapse and believing their company of choice will prosper, is playing with fire. With one company, you WISH that you break 80 million to life sold. You seriously hope this.
