Zod95. you are flat out delusional if you think the Wii is somehow 6th gen. but i guess you have to pretend that because you simply cannot admit that Sony and MS lost the 7th gen.

They didn't lose if we consider the winner the system with the most netflix users ;)

well too bad. the winner is the one with the most console sales.

Eh IMO it doesn't work like that. 360 and PS3 sold more software, got the most games and in the end will have an equal if not bigger userbase than Wii.

Wii by far made the most money. But as you see that's just another metric of 'winning'.

for years "winning" meant selling the most conoles. but this time Nintendo sold the most consoles so people are trying to change the meaning because apparently for some reason Nintendo winning is unnacceptable.

lol it's not unacceptable, I'm just saying in what way did Nintendo win? A silly fanboy war = most units sold. Realisticly a combination of hardware, software, profits, reach and sustainability is what you would use to determine a winner, in which you could argue there are multiple winners.

More evidence that the graphical "nextgen" leap won't be as big as many people had dreamed of:

It is indeed funny isn't it.

First the wii u was not as powerful as the current gen according to some developers. Next it was equal to current gen. Now Ubisoft, the only big third-party that actually took time to learn the system confirms in every possible way that it is between last gen and next gen. Exactly where it should be.

When the first lot of wii u games came out the opposition were all laughing their asses of deliberately ignoring the fact that the system was new and will take time to learn. BTW the fact that not many games have been released on the wii u means that there is as much to learn on it as the other new consoles.

Now with all the recent 1080p v 720p upheaval going on in their camps they are all reminding themselves that the systems are new and will take time to learn, even though all developers say because of the similarities between PC and PS4, xone it is very easy and quick to port games both ways.

The power of the wii u is far closer to the other two than most think and although it would never match them it is the size of the gap that matters.

When consumers see for themselves that they had been sold a lot of lies about the wii u and compare the graphics of all the new consoles next month the wii u will look a lot better deal for the price.

My thinking has always been that many wii u potential buyers are waiting for just this moment to see and compare all the consoles for themselves. The same happen with the x360 when it launched early. All the talk was of PS3 eating it for lunch. The sales were slow but when consumers saw the supposed gap wasn't there they snapped up the x360.

In recent weeks the wii u bashing has pretty much stopped as haters are now too busy worrying about the alledged power of their supported console.

I intend to enjoy this very amusing time.

I know it's so silly, especially since the PS3 will outsell it eventually.

This gen is actually one of the most interesting sales wise. Depending on which years you look at, the "winner" is completely different. Much better than the gens that stay static.

the only way that would happen is if the PS4 would flop straight on it's face for the first couple of years like what happened with the PS3. in other words, no that's not happening.

I think the PS3 won't outsell the Wii never! I mean the PS4 is right around the corner, that will eat up a lot of PS3 sales. Besides Sony should start giving more focus to the Vita than the PS3...

It will happen, Sony consoles have fantastic legs and there is no evidence to say PS3 won't. PS2 has been selling millions even during Wii's peak year!!

By the end of this year both PS360 will be a meager 15m away from 100m (which Wii isn't going to grow much from)

MS have said they're aiming for 100 million as well.

So true, Mo. This is VGchartz, a website dedicated to the sales of consoles (and games). Ask anyone who won the last gen and they will say wii... well any realistic person, as it stands now.

The big numbers on the homepage are the ones that matter. That is why there are there. I don't see which console has the more games or made the most money on that page.

But as you say those that want to can spin anything. PS2 won it's gen, Xbox was second and GC last. It doesn't matter than Nintendo made more money than the other two and MS lost a whole packet. No one is saying MS came last.

the PS2 sold as much as it after the PS3's launch was not just a matter of legs. the PS2 was a much more appealing purchase than the PS3, it was 400$ cheaper, had a humongous game library, as well as many releases still coming (like Persona 4), and was much smaller, more reliable, etc. the PS4 isn't having those problems.

Its really hard to engage people who use absolutes and give no reasoning behind it.  The PS2 ended with GTA SA and GT 4, which both games are still being shipped today.  The combination of those games helped the PS2 sell well into the next generation.  The combination of further price cuts,  GTA 5 and GT6 and more high end tier 2 games (like lightning returns) will easily bring PS3 totals to over 100m.  Dont know why this conversations keeps being brought up.  Sony has stuck to its multiyear plans for consoles for a decade + now, its not going to suddenly change.
