You do realize DirectX didn't really become a standard until DirectX 9.0? Up until that point many games shipped with OpenGL and DirectX was patched in if fans were lucky. DirectX is by far the biggest contribution of MS to PC gaming. Windows has the monopoly on PC gaming, but I'd argue that's due to Word and Excel etc. increasing the popularity of MS OS's with gaming as a positive side effect.

Ninetendo didn't come up with triggers, that would be Sega. Why is there so little points for Sony and Microsoft? How about Microsoft had the first online store between the other markets? Sony had the first free online service? Nintendo reached 64 bits first? Sony had the largest library of games with the PS2. Nintendo has some of the oldest mascots. Sony brought DVD and Blu Ray to our home consoles? I know this would not count, but it would be nice if Sega was on this list too.

Well put buttons/triggers, some people consider any shoulder buttons as triggers.  I already put Microsoft revolutionalized online, that basically covers the online store.  Added free online.  Idk if I can put largest liabrary because that isn't really credited to Sony.  Oldest mascots isn't really an innovation.  Added DVD and Blu Ray to Sony.

Yes but let's be honest long standing mascots are very rare in the industry, especially since the 80's.. That is generations of successsful gaming of those mascots. Btw Sony had the first dual analog handheld I believe PS Vita. Also Sony does have the largest game library for a console (PS2).

Ya but that large game library isn't credited to Sony, its credited to the numerous third party studios.

PS I took out the free online because people were telling me that goes to Sega, not Sony.

Oh dear, the riot van has arrived to disperse the crowd.

Unfortunately, the driver accidentally used the tear gas on himself.

No, Gnac. You need to stop it. You need to stop being so hilarious.
I can't laugh, it's a sin to have fun.

NES D-pad, SNES shoulder buttons, N64 trigger button, N64 analog stick, N64 force feedback, DS dual screen with touch screen control, Wii motion gaming, 3DS 3D portable gaming. I'm not sure this poll is needed if you consider how Nintendo has constantly been changing the game.

Well Sony did get a repectable amount of votes.  If it was all Nintendo then the poll would be irrelavent.

Yes but as a console manufacturer to have all the support on your console isn't that a major achievement? I thought this is how this business works.

Sega charged for SegaNet they only gave a free Dreamcast if you signed up for their service. Nothing was free about it.

I don't think anyone can take you seriously when you make comments like that.  I am starting to think you are a legit troll and only say these things to get a reaction out of people.  I don't think even Sony fans here would actually agree with you on this point.

He explained it poorly but he is right. It's not that gaming couldn't be enjoyed by adults but the overall image of gaming was that it was for kids. Sony's Playstation changed that image.

However, that isn't correct either.  Saying the Playstation itself changed that image or that Sony was the reason that the image changed is incorrect.  Sony didn't make those games, Sony didn't make some "inherently more adult" console.  So no, that's wrong too.

edit: In fact, I believe the "kiddy" image that Nintendo has stems from their squeaky clean family friendly attitude rather than actually being for kids.  For real, Metroid was made before Sony entered the gaming market.  Do you think that game was made with little kids in mind?  It was fucking modeled after the Aliens movies.  It's also a Nintendo game.  It may not have been the most popular game, but that's definitely something that was viewed as more adult.

There was also Mortal Kombat before PS.  And I do NOT think that the PS suddenly made older people play games.  I still believe it took time before the transition was made.  I don't think Sony was responsible for that change.  I think it became easier to go after adults as hardware improvements were made since games weren't as limited as they used to be.  I also checked your profile and you seem like you do gaming anywhere except Nintendo (though that is only by looking at your profile, can't say if it truly reflects your gaming habits).

I said the Playstation as a system(and the games that were released for it) changed that image, that doesn't mean that it was Sony's plan to begin with. It did however happen thanks to Sony releasing that system. And the fact that matures games were released on NIntendo's platforms before doesn't change the image. Just check out how gaming consoles were portraited on tv, there was a huge shift in and after geneartion of the first Playstation.

You're a smart one.

Seriously, people need to stop revising history. During the NES/SNES era, console gaming was considered to be for kids. Arcades for nerds or geeks. Nowadays, you can hear anyone saying that they play games.
