They are lacking titles which will able to pull existing gamers off their current consoles, as all the big day one X1 titles are coming out for the existing PS3/360 console anyway. Only compelling Exclusive Generation 8 games will be able to pull existing gamers off the PS3/360, improved version of the same game won't cut it. |
You mean... Quantum Break, D4, Project Sparks, Forza 5, Killer Instinct, Dead Rising 3, Sunset Overdrive and Crymson Dragon aren't looking great?

I am not arguing about the potential quality of the game listed but their ability to pull gamers off their existing PS3/360 console. While the Hardcore audience will happy to see all those new IP's, the more mainstream audience which make up the bulk of the sales are more interested in game which are already established than taking a risk on the potential of a new IP's.
If gamers can get all the blockbuster titles like CoD Ghost, B4, Watch Dogs & Assassin creed 4 on their existing console there little reason for a lot of people to buy new console yet unless they have their own exclusive and already established blockbuster title. X1 could seriously do with having a new Halo or even new Fable within the first few months of the console release.

where have you seen that they want players to get out of PS3/360 at launch.... actually having 70 million sales in the couple month around launch is probably way less profitable than selling those slowely over several years....
by next year their profit margin will probably be bigger already, economy of scale will start to kick in later furthering profit margin etc....
their is absolutely no logic into releasing an Halo 5 that close from the last one and at launch, it'd be like using your best special weapons on round one of a tower defence game.... it's a waste of ammo.... establish your brand with the likes of us, then start pushing big blockbuster and exclusive at a constent pace with different target audiences while shrinking your price along the line...

Who else but existing PS3/360 user are going to spend $500-400+ on new console?
It already well known Sony/Microsoft console make their money back not console sales but on games sales, services, and accessories. Theoretically having 70 million user so soon would equal massive profits on services, accessories, First Party software and Third Party royalties which would easily out strip the long term spreaded out profit on console sales.
For why they need Halo 5 so soon, it simply because they are competing head to head against PS4 with $100 higher price point and a weaker console in favor Kinect, which Hardcore/Mainstream gamers simply don't want. Add to that Hardcore gamer distrust over their recent policies choices and one largest gaming market which will be doomed from the start in Japan. They could release Halo 5 a few years down the line to find it already too late and PS4 has built such a massive lead over X1 which will be near impossible to overcome.
