It also had one of the best villains of forever in Luca Blight. The twists were just excruciating. It's hard to beat all that combined with 108 companions and six characters in a party. Soulcalibur is my runner-run. The first fighting game that I really, really liked. Taki, I still heart you.

Still waiting for that to show up on PSN :(

@OP: I'll go with SoulCalibur. Probably the best fighting game ever made, and one of the few instances where the console port is superior to the arcade original.

Pretty much best in every single way. Why is it so hard to make another HoMM that is just as amazing as HoMM3 :(.

Different developers I guess. It's like we get a new one for each sequel or even dlc lately. I seriously don't see a Heroes 7 coming out any time soon (maybe in a decade or sth).

Your list is pretty excellent.  Though I've never heard of those games.  A little google time confirms these are deserving to be on the list no question about it.  My farvorite games of '99 would be: Soulcalibur, Sonic Adventure, and Hydro Thunder!  I love those games!  I'm deeply disappointed in Nintendo for fucking up so bad in '99.  I was an n64 gamer exclusively and I didn't have anything to play that year.  So when Sega came with the pain I jumped ship.  I bought donkey kong 64. Hated it.  Smash Bros was a success?  Not with me.  Castlevania 64... YUCK!  

 

So yeah.. good list.  Suck year for american console owners.
