>Or that they dumped Sony?

they dumped sony because their own game sucked?

Please, dump Sony anytime they want. And maybe Port that bloody game to 360 while they are at it. ;)

No dumped Sony because they decided that developing for the PS3 does not work for them, Lair sucked and they could quite plausibly blame Sony for making poor dev tools and for making them publish the game before it was polished.

I can't really see Factor 5 choosing to rely solely on the gyroscopes in the sixaxis for control being the fault of Sony...

Scenario 1: Sony, in early 2007, having seen the amazing success and huge amount of press surrounding the wii's motion controls, is desperate to show that the PS3 sixaxis also has that capability. What better way to showcase that capability than a flying dragon game that uses that control? Now wiisports only had motion controls with no buttons able to substitute and that worked really well for them so why can't it work for Sony and Lair?

Factor 5 is an independent studio, so why would they be the ones Sony would pin this task on? Why wouldn't they have made motion controls mandatory in Warhawk instead? That was they game they used to show off the Sixaxis at all the major press events to begin with, and it is owned and developed by Sony.

Factor 5 is technically independent but often times fill a 2nd party role developing a game very closely with the console companies much like how they were almost exclusive with Nintendo for the GC.  As for warhawk, that came out a lot later than Lair and maybe they realized by that point not to try that.

And realize that its better for companies to have other companies take a bigger risk than having your own.  So they lose little money if Lair flopped while they lose a lot of money if warhawk flopped.

They're still working with the ps3 too...just other consoles ALSO...so settle down children--nobody dropped anyone. They're spreading the love and working on projects for all consoles...this should be happy news, not a pissing match.

I usually hate to flourish my ubergeekery like this, but that sounded exactly like the wedding scene in Monty Python's Holy Grail:

"Please, this is supposed to be a happy occaision! Let's not bicker and argue over who killed who!"

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing

By the same token, why would Factor 5 be willing to risk so much to push somebody else's new technology?

Also, Warhawk came out two days before Lair in the US, and months before Lair in the other territories.

For the same reason they had problems in other parts of the game?  Companies make bad decisions all the time.

And as for the release date, Lair was originally scheduled to be released in July before it was delayed twice (I assume in an attempt to fix the game).  I forgot that it got delayed that close to Warhawk's release at the end of August.
