Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation 4 gives up to 5.5GB of RAM to game developers

Reading comments on ign, gamespot or gameinformer, i can't believe how many people react the way they do. So, ps4 has 4'5-5'5 gb gddr5 ram for games vs 5 gb ddr3 ram on xbox one and suddenly all the people are hailing xbox one as the better hardware. Maybe i'm an idiot that don't read it right, but..., if ps4 and xbox one have almost the same amount of ram for games, and ps4 have gddr5, in which dimension or reality xbox one is more powerful?? And not to forget that the gpu of ps4 is better too.

It's really stupid reading from xbox fans that ps4 is an epic fail because of the amount of ram, when xbox one is the same.....

Some of the Sony fanbase made a huge deal over the PS4 having 8gb of ram. People were beating their chest about how PS4 games will have superior graphics because of the ammount of ram it has. Some even went as far saying that the PS4 would be ahead of PC for quite some time  because of the ammount of ram. When the Xbox One was reveled to only have 5gb available for games, people started to say the Xbox One would be at a severe disadvantage to the PS4.

So yes it is a big deal, not to me though, because some of the Sony fanbase praised the ammount of ram as the be all end all.

People bragged so much about the 7GB that I believed the ps4 would be so much powerful and would make a difference from 60fps to 30fps on x1. I was really looking foward to buying a ps4 in 2015 but now i'm just mad.

Embarrassing for Jonathan Blow.

And for Cerny and Sony. How could they have let us believe the ps4 had 7 GB for games. They knew we all thought that was a fact but remained silent. I feel like they lied to me.

I'm now considering not buying the ps4 not because it has less ram but because they thought they could fool people.

I hope you're not fucking serious?  I mean really why does it matter?  Did MS or Sony ever say anything about RAM allocations for the ps3 and 360?

Did anyone from Sony ever state that the PS4 has 7 GB for games? Or was it just the fans speculating?

There were websites and people providing links with this info(7GB ram for games)yet sony remained quiet. I feel so upset about this.

No offense but that's your own damn fault then.  You let people who know nothing about tech convince you that it would have 7GB and now you're underhyped because now there is a new "RUMOR" about the OS allocation being larger which wasn't confirmed to begin with.

LOL WHAT?!? This comment is embarrassing FOR YOU! They never said anything about how much of the ram the OS/Games will take up. Lol you now are considering not buying a PS4. Something tells me you would have never gotten one in the first place.

Please just gtfo.

The 7gb was just a rumor and so is this. Sony has yet to give a word on either.

They just did not let 7GB right now because no developer needs that much now so they can release more RAM in future if there is a need and when the system is matured the OS and everything will be optimized to release more RAM. Also sony intendeds to a lot of multi task here and they wish one second resume from suspend of PS4 which is possible only if we store all the content opened in RAM which is like Sleep in PC's.

In a year or two more RAM will be available for developers when they need right now they don't need 7GB so sony wanted to be future proof for now.

NO. They said the maximum amount would be 5.5 after the 1GB of flexible ram was released for use.

Adinnieken's got the puns. Well played.

And what is this RAM being used for in the OS? In 3-5 years 4.5gb-5.5gb ram will be very small. Really they should have went with 6-7gb ram to at least try to keep up with the times. If Xbox One goes with 12gb ram then they could have 8-9gb ram and definitely be pretty viable for years to come.
