Forums - Gaming - NVidia Shield to hit retailers first week of August

Nvidia Shield, which is arguably one of the best tablets to hit the market combined with a gaming controller is set hit store shelves the first week of August. Retailers have recently listed its ship date as July 31st, but I have it on good authority that retai distribution will be starting just a day or so later.

Depending on the price I might take a 2nd look. Might be just the gaming tablet I was looking for.

For $300 dollars with excellent hardware and the latest Android OS I think its a worth while investment as a tablet alone. However, you can also stream some Steam games (currently in Beta) from your PC to the tablet, and eventually should be able to stream most Steam games. It is required that you have a higher end NVidia card to do this though. I'll look it up again and update my initial post with more specific details about the product.

Did we ever get any Ouya numbers?

OT

This will do worse than the Vita by a considerable margin. Which may or not be acceptable to Nvidia?

This really isn't coming out to sell in the millions and shouldn't be judged based on its sales merits. The point of Nvidia Shield is this:

1. Push the Tegra 4 as the most GPU powerful ARM based SOC

2. Provide extra value to people buying video cards to buy the Nvidia Geforce cards and stream PC games to their Nvidia Shield

3. Give Nvidia an edge over Qualcon and Samsung when it comes to Android based chipsets for gaming. If devs start optimizing games to run on Tegra 4 better thanks to Shield being popular, Nvidia absolutely accomplished everything they wanted to with this device.

I'll probably get one since it seems way more customizable and feature packed than PSVita thanks to Android, and probably has better build quality than anything else running Android.

But first we need to see the Ouya sales numbers so we could see how this is going to do. It doesn't have anything appealing to me on another note.

I personally have 3 tablets in my house and 2 smart phones. I don't personally have a tablet though and this honestly looks like it would be a great tablet... I wonder if you could disconnect the controller... I'll find that out soon

What games does it play? Kinda pointless if it's just mobile games

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

I'm assuming this thing can run emulators no problem? That alone almost makes it worth $300. Being able to play some PC titles, and Android games is just icing on the cake. Not having to use ridiculously over-priced memory cards is a nice touch as well.

Not really portable solution to PC gaming unfortunately as it requires Wi-Fi connection to connect to your computer and for your computer to have a GTX 650 or better. Could be a good idea in the future though
