In the free Killer Instinct, when you play online, does it give you whatever character your opponent picks? I made it through most of the tutorials with Jago and was looking forward to trying it out online... only to see I was stuck with Thunder and knew nothing about him.

They alternate the free character every couple of weeks.  I dont know who is free at the moment.  Jago is the only character that can do Dojo so that is why you had to use him.

As for Thunder, excellent character thanks to his high/low mixups and his instinct mode is deadly with his grapple abilities.  Unfortunely he is hard to use so he is def a hard character to start off with.

If i had to mark them by tiers id prob rank

A - Sabrewulf -  High/Low mixups, easy to use, super fast with quick and relentless combos.  Has a bad matchup against Glacius though so good luck going agains him.  However his dash mixup is beast if you know how to use it right.  His insinct adding 20% extra damage while doing chip damage just makes him even more threatening.  Oh and i believe he has the best wakeup in the game with Shadow Eclipse.  But people can bait you on that if done right.

A - Sadira - In a game that emphasizes a great ground game thanks to how the combo system works, she is unlike any of the other characters.  Her double jump can be used for double cross mixups and her  Her spider web thing, cant think of what it is called can be pretty deadly if someone knows how to use her right.  Not to mention she has the best instinct in the game at the moment. She has a bad matchup against Thunder though thanks to his anti-air. As I said, KI emphasizes a bit of a ground game so it is hard to get her in a combo while people are jumping around.  Once you get her on the ground you have to keep her there.

A - Thunder -  Good anti-air move with great high/low mixups.  Little slow but his jump travels pretty far with his Fierce kick.  I see a lot of people doing that with him, but once you figure out how to punish that it is over for him.  His instinct is amazing giving him a speed boost.  This allows him to take full advantage of his grappling abilities.  i dont believe he has a bad matchup, but i could be wrong.

B - Glacius -  Hard to use but great to master.  Very possibly the hardest character to use in the game.  Him or Spinal that is. Such an annoying chacter to go against at times though.

C - Orchid -  Great High/Low Mixups in here combos.  Along with her powerslide and high damage combos, grapple in midair, as well as some of her juggles, if you know how to use her she can easily be used in competitive play.  Unfortunely a lot of her moves are punishable which leaves her vulnerable a lot.  High risk, high reawrd character.

C - Jago -  Cant stand this character.  He actually might be on the B list, not positive with him.  He is annoying as hell to go against though because his wind kick.  He has a good range game, good mid range, and good closeup.  The character that has an answer for everything.  He also has a great wakeup in the haudouken uppercut along with a good jumping crossup.

D - Spinal -  This may be a little early adding him to this list as he is very hard to use and people could figure out how to use him effectively.  From my experience his regulars isnt all that great, his skeleport can be punishable as well as most all of his moves are very punishable, and he is slow.  He does have a few great things about him though.  For one he has a decent high/low opener. Both in which are dangerous to use but his combos may give the highest damage in the  game so it makes up for his slow nature and punishable moves.  He also has power absorb by pressing back X, i believe.  This can be very effefctive if used right and actually might make him an amazing character if somebody figures him out.  My guess is he is very defensive which is why i couldnt use him all that well.  He also has a pretty good insinct giving him all skulls which absorbs people's instinct and shadow meter.  This is very effective if used right as many people rely on those two things.  He is very fun to use though.

I got Shadow Jago with my Day One so at least I knew some of the moves after completing the dojo tutorials

Man, installs on this thing are pathetic. Ryse going for over 5 minutes.... 2%. I'm no mathmetician, but that's over 4 hours AFAIK. Oh, 3%. This supposed fix for faster install times can't come soon enough.

At 3% its ready to start apparently.
