Halo: Spartans Assault Coop 

343 Industries and Vanguard Games' Halo: Spartan Assault port for Xbox 360 and Xbox One offers players a frantic co-op mode that encourages teamwork and strategy.

In a recent hands-on demo with the Xbox One version of the game , Polygon played the new co-op mode — which was not available in the original Windows 8 version — alongside the campaign mode, and the two experiences were very different. The co-op mode is characterized by floods of weaker enemies that are punctuated by bigger, more powerful enemies that can take more damage. The arena was chaotic, and we had to strategize with our co-op partner to stay alive and avoid being overwhelmed.

The single-player campaign mode was a much more mellow experience in comparison. With the absence of Flood, we mostly dealt with the much smarter and more powerful Convenant. This required us to take a more considered approach and involved shooting, finding cover and maneuvering ourselves around the battlefield to defend mission objectives.

"If you look at the kind of shooter this is, bringing back the Flood and adding an extra player is a very different experience to the main campaign, but one that's very complementary," lead designer at 343 Industries Mike Ellis told Polygon. "The idea being we wanted to emphasize people sticking together and co-operating and complementing each other's attributes. So if one person is using a short-range weapon against the Flood, I would use the long-range weapon to take care of the big guys. We can stand on the turrets together in order to maximize our fire power.

"Just having the Flood themselves made for a very different type of gameplay. It's more about holding the tide and not being overwhelmed, versus fighting the Covenant in the single-player campaign, who are a more considered enemy who will take cover to try to preserve themselves in a way the Flood won't."

The top-down shooter was released earlier this year exclusively for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 mobile and tablet devices. It will launch on Xbox One as a downloadable title on Dec. 24, and on Xbox 360 in January 2014 for $14.99. Those who purchased the game for their Windows 8 devices prior to Dec. 15 will be able to pick up the Xbox One version of the game at the discounted price of $4.99.

How would they implement remote play? Through a tablet? I wouldn't want that, I'd only care if they made their own dedicated portable, I'd never see MS do that and I doubt it would be financially feasible as well. Overall, agreed with Seece.

Doesn't seem to practical to me. Can most phones even run these kind of games? If I wanted to play crappy mobile games, I'd just do it on my phone, but I doubt it could play those games.

Actually many smartphone chipsets are as powerful or more powerful than the Vita's chipset nowadays. Windows Phone's new flagship, the Nokia 1520, is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, which has more than double the power of the Vita's chipset. However, that doesn't matter because remote play doesn't run the games themselves on the handheld, the games are ran on the console and then streamed to the handheld via wi-fi, if your handheld or phone can stream a 720p movie from youtube, it can probably stream 720p gameplay from a console. 

The picture that JoeTheBro posted is of a clip that connects your smartphone to your controller so that you can easily access smartglass features, as far as I know there is no connection from the phone to the controller, so you couldn't actually play games on it. However, that design could potentially be used to design a remote play device in the future. I personally would prefer a dedicated device myself, but I'm sure many people would be happy simply connecting a smartphone to their controller.

Lol, thanks for clarrification. I pretty much typed that with no backup. I actually didn't know smartphones were that powerful nowadays. Do you there is a market for this kind of device? The handheld market isn't exactly the most profitable either.

JoeTheBro's idea is interesting, but the only port on top of the Xbox One's controller, where the smartphone would be connected with such a device, is a mini-USB port, and I'm not sure if USB is fast enough for a suitable connection between the controller and the smartphone capable of actually using the screen to play games. You know how Microsoft redesigned the port on the bottom of the Xbox One controller? It's a proprietary connector and Microsoft claimed that it's speed is greatly increased over the port on the 360 controller, they said in an interview that the speed was increased so that more powerful peripherals could be designed for the bottom of the Xbox One controller than were designed for the Xbox 360 controller (mainly just the chatpad). That left many people theorizing, what kind of peripherals was this new port designed for? One popular idea was a touchscreen that could be used for both typing (like the chatpad accessory for the 360 controller) and for smartglass features. But an additional use, assuming that the port is actually fast enough, would be remote play. If you look at the size of the chatpad on the 360 controller, a simlar device for the Xbox One controller could support a 4 inch touchscreen, with some cleaver engineering, maybe even slightly bigger. That's a bigger screen than the original 3DS model, large enough I think that most gamers would be fine using it for remote play.


XBONE uses wifi direct. The same way the controllers wireessly connect to the system, they could connect to the smartphone.

This would look really cool though
