i wouldnt worry too much, the failure rates being reported are in keeping with basically all consumer electronics, theres no such thing as a release without any issues what so ever, we all have RoHS to thank for this.

I expect the Xbox One launch will drum up some previously unknown issues too, with a roughly similar frequency.

I expect XBO to launch with issues as well.  What I want to know is how wide spread these issues are.  I dont want something (For either console) to be widespread.  Right now im hearing a lot of issues but it is hard to believe people on forums.  So i dont know what to believe at the moment.

a lot of it is down to user inexperience, for example i wonder how many hdmi based consoles have been broken by people (looking at you kotaku) rushing and messing up the hdmi sockets?, how many people have been impatient and pulled the power on their console while it was doing something and corrupted the drive? (the cause of a lot of these pulsing blue light reports, where yanking drive briefly forces it to repair itself).

I really hope the drive thing doesnt become an issue on the Xbox One, as obviously you cant temp disconnect its drive without voiding warranty.

It seems to me at least, if you take your time, and treat the hardware well, you could avoid a lot of unneeded headache.

With viral marketing and the existance of reputation management firms these days though, i would take failure reports for any new console with a huge pinch of salt, anyone can sign up to a forum and say things, anyone can pretend a console they have access to is their own etc.

The most likely point to actually judge genuine failure reports would be mid january when both consoles are out and the christmas rush is over.

For the time being, forums are like metacritic user scores, biased in favor or biased against, where neither side can truly prove they are in a position to properly comment on the topic (e.g. actually have the system and said problems), and posting FUD for exactly the same reasons people spam-score metacritic user reviews with good or bad.

Going through 2 X360's and 2 PS2 failures myself i'm hoping they are an absolute minimum.  Luckily other than X360 and PS2 i never have had much problems but when I did have a failure i can remember how upsetting it was.  Buying a new console that you were so excited for and then turning it on to  see it break would be devastating.  I Havent had that happen.

Besides my friend having some probs with his PS4 he is loving it though.  He had to delete Killzone and BF4 off his hard drive because they wouldnt work but he said he still loves it :)  He was thrilled about how fast the UI was.  When he gets it working I hope to go see it in action

Does anybody have any theories about the Black Tusk Game?  I've been waiting everly so not patiently for more after this teaser.  Do you think it will be FPS or TPS?

To me it looks to be a TPS, reminds me a lot of splinter cell.
