Your post seems a bit bias endimon. It's like you are trying to sell WP (and nokia) to noble. Thats not a great way to give advice imo. Saying android "outright sucks" and "WP8 already ahead of ios".... My post was not anti Windows phone. But the two negatives i noted about the OS is 100% true. Developers target ios first then android or dev on both. If noble's needs strays even a little bit off the most popular stuff then chances are it wont be on Windows phone.E.g. If he does mobile banking will hes banks app be on windows phone? Probably not. Will it be on ios? Yes. Will it be on android? probably. And so it goes for just about every app.Another example: Noble's favourite shop has a mobile app. Is it on windows phone? Probably not. But probably is on ios and android. This gets worse when you look at regions outside of the US. As for the windows UI its very different from ios and android. Most people i have met who have changed over to WP do not enjoy the experience. This is anecdotal, i clearly said "in my experience". I also did not say he shouldnt go with WP. I simply said he needs to be more cautious. Check if the apps that you need are on the platform and go have a feel for the OS. The idea here is not to sell a platform but to give advice to a fellow member. |
Sorry for the late answer been rather busy
well like with XBox and most products I support I am not as much pro MS or anything but more anti certain brands...
like with XBox if nintendo does something better or more suited for my needs in the future I'll have no problem switching but there close to no chance that I'll ever get a PS... you should have seen me hate MS in the 90s when they where more like google or apple are today....
now when I say WP is better I'm basing that on fact not looks and fee,l this is a personal decision, even though I find the iOS 7 looks and feel super crapy and outdated compared to WP or some nice skin on android... but in terms of measurable and comparable features WP is really well done when it comes to pure optimisation when you see how well it runs on really weak hardware and other good stuff like that it is hard to say it is not a really good OS from a technical point of view....
so I'm not as much trying to make an WP sale as much as I'm trying to make android and iOS lose one :P BB wouldn't be dead and Tizen and Ubuntu for mobile would be already launched or well supported I'd also push these...
and you are right apps are on iOS first most of the time ( which is silly since android absolutely destroys every other platform so even with a better monetization there is no reason to do so) me I'm in France and have all my banking apps from USA and France on WP I also have all the IM social apps I need from FB, Tweeter, whatsapp, groupme, skype, viber, kik, linkedin, foursquare, I don't use all the other crap like snapchat, pinterest, etc etc but I know there are non official solution that are working just fine.... and on many occasion when the API is open to devs I found non official apps being on par or even better than what the official is. especially when they just did a port of an android app or iOS one which are not in line with the WP look and feel and features...
all in all WP is a great OS lacking a lot of support right now no question about that... but things are looking very nice in the very neer future and support is incrinsing fast from every actor (devs, customers, big names) in europe for instance it is steadily taking iOS marketshare and will be in front of it within a few years in some countries... and when it comes to hardware the Nokia flagship can easily compete with the most famous smartphone out there with no shame...
so yeah it's a choice, but for a young adult that is not all addicted to official social apps, flappy bird crap game apps and look for a good phone at a good price with a very good OS that is set to have major improvement and support in the near future and has already a lot of MS services or wants to switch from competing ones (I'm sorry but google docs, gmail, and many other services from android or even equivalent on iOS are not better if even on par with some of MS services, I personnaly have 30gb of free onedrive space an hour a month of skype credit etc between all the offers and bundles they do with all their products and services) a good Nokia phone is great choice... but yeah like you said it all depends on what you are looking for.
