Forums - Sony Discussion - Quick PlayStation 3 question about power cord

Does it use a two-prong outlet, or a three-prong?  Because my room is old, and I only have two-prong outlets in there.  Also, the picture for the silver forty gig shows a two-prong outlet, but is that the same for the black forty-gig?  Also, are the sixty- or eighty-gig ones two- or three- pronged?  Thanks!

The 60gb is three pronged, the white 40gb is 2, beyond that i'm not sure.

@ Spiderman

Thanks

Anyone know about the eighty gig?

You can buy a small cheap adapter that changes the slot into three prong, they sell them cheap at home depot, my house is old too so thats what I had to do since most everything I own is three pronged.

The 80 gig is 3 pronged but like kasillas88 said the adaptors are less than a dollar

For 88 cents, you can replace the outlet. Just make sure you turn off the power first.

I got a 40GB and it uses a three prong-outlet!

Looks like there is a simple way to see if you have the 65nm chips in the PS3.

My guess is that 3= still got 90nm chips in it, as these would require more power.

Hmm... thanks everyone. I'm thinking about getting a PS3 in the near future and that was a question I needed to know. I think I'll wind up getting the 80 gig, and go to home depot to try to find the "outlet changer thingy".

The 3rd prong is for gound, it has nothing to do with needing more power.

Here is an interesting article about it.
