Forums - Gaming - What if all consoles except the 3ds sell less than 150k in 2014 in NA monthly, do gamers worry?

I know Im being mr negative right here, but for some reason, im just not feeling the hype for this generation as much as the last. sure maybe there is "internet hype", but when i go to the real world, not as many people care as i thought. Im sure the first two or three monthes will be great, and we will hear the typical "selling at 200% rate faster than the ps3 or xbox 360," bull, but then I think the sales will start to fall, dramtically. I dont think the casuals are interested in these new consoles at all. Should hardcore gamers start to worry if neither the X1 or Ps4 sell past 150k monthey in the non holiday seasons?

That would be really bad in general then. I mean the wii u having low sales is one thing, but all of the next gen consoles tanking is a bit of a worry.

I would worry, but it wouldn't stop me from gaming.

It would be worrying. It could certainly lead to another type of gaming industry crash because of the overall saturation in the industry. I wouldn't be surprised if this generation ends up more like the 6th generation with one major leader and two other consoles competing for a small second place finish.

I don't see this bad of a crash happening, though.

I am not worried. Did you hear? PS4 is supposed to solve the world economy crisis ;)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

sony fans have this thing to make it seem like the system is bigger than it actually is, ever sense the ps2 they think their console is just destroying competion. They thought the psp was going to destroy the ds, they thought the vita was going to destroy 3ds, they thought the ps3 was going to destroy the 360 and wii, well i could totally see the ps4 winning this gen but i dont think its enough to really spark something in america, nothing stands out about it.

just my opinion that is so dont hurt me sony fans!!

The truth is, after the initial rush, the XO and the PS4 are going to face serious competition from the 360 and PS3, just as those two did from the PS2. I honestly wouldn't worry all that much if they struggled on the front-end, as a lot of games are going to be bi-generational early on. I think they'll really kick it into gear after a revision/price-cut, however, and perform well around the middle of their respective life-cycles. Next generation won't be as big as this gen, though I think Nintendo is going to take a disproportionate amount of that hit.

I believe Microsoft and Sony are going to be in a serious race to see who can cut production costs and be the first to gain a large-scale bump from a price reduction. If they're still struggling after that, then I'll worry.

Honestly, gamers will only worry if the consoles have problems selling after the initial price cut hits. Of course by then it might be too late for some of the devices but time will ultimately tell.

I honestly dont see them doing over 150k on an average week outside of the holidays. I expect PS4 and One first full year sales to be similar to PS3/360 first year sales. Also PS360 are likely to get price cuts next year which could slow the PS4/One adoption.

4gb 360-$149, w/Kinect-$199, 250gb 360-$199 vs One-$499

250gb PS3-$199, 500gb-$249 vs PS4-$399, Camera/Knack bundle-$499

Also the majority of games for the new consoles will be on PS360 so current owners may stick with them.

As for Wii U, I think it will have a nice turnaround but not 150k/week. I do see it being the best selling home console next year tho.

Wii U Mario Kart 8 bundle-$299

2014 sales
PS3/PS4-8.5 million each
360/One-6.5 million each
Wii U-10 million

I think PS4/One wont truly take off until 2015 when they likely get a price cut and thr number of cross-gen releases is reduced greatly. I also expect 2014/15 to be Wii U peak years then steadily declining from 2016-18, which will be PS4/One best years.
