Forums - Gaming - Why Nintendo doesn't need to cut the price of the wii U

Nobody is talking about Wii U because there are no system sellers on Wii U. No 3D Mario, Smash Bros. Mario Kart, or Zelda. The Wii U, as much as I hate to say it, needs a price cut or a deal around the holiday season. The Wii U will most likely sell the best this year due to the lowest price and Black Friday. Nobody is going to put a sale on PS4 or Xbone because they will have just come out. Nintendo, along with Sonic, Mario, DK, Pikmin will easily take this year. I'm worried about what happens in 2015-16 when all their major 1st party games will have been released.

And let's get real. All these gamers online that are raving about PS4 and Xbone is misleading. Yes, there are a lot of people online talking about it but what matters is what happens to parents/families in the store this holiday season. Nintendo will probably have a Super Mario 3D world commercial campaign out during the holidays which will boost Wii U awareness. Plus, imagine, since Nintendo is such a "kiddy" company, a mother and father walk into walmart looking for a present for little Jimmy. They want to spend as little as possible. They see the Xbone and their wallet cries in fear, count that out, mind as well buy a PC for that cost. And your PC won't spy on you. Then they see a $299 Wii U and 3D World, 4 players and say "cheap n' Mario... WIN!" I know this won't be the scenario for every holiday Wii U buyer but I have seen it happen before.

The Wii U will be fine. Just give it some time. PS3 and Xbox360 didn't sell very well initially either. The haters just want Nintendo to fail because they don't make "grown up games" with blood, guts, and profanity and they won the DS vs. PSP era, the Wii vs. PS360 era, and are currently winning the 3DS vs. Vita era. Of course a company so successful and open to praise is also so open to negative criticism, it is to be expected. Wii U will find its crowd and no, it might not be the best selling console this generation. Yeah, I'm putting it at 3rd place but what matters is how profitable a company is. Sony didn't start profitting off of PS3 until last year while the Wii and DS basically printed out money for Nintendo and it was legal!

If you don't have the funds to back your ideas you won't stick around much longer. We know how much money Nintendo loses on every Wii U sold AND what it takes to become profitable again... 1 game. We know not how much PS4 or Xbone loses nor what it takes to get back to profit. Neither has a claim as bold as the one Reggie made. It doesn't do any good to sell millions of consoles if you aren't making a profit and that is where Nintendo has found its strength. Their first loss in 100+ years was this year! Who else can say that? The only reason was because overpriced hardware due to high production costs. Once the Wii U can be manufactured without a loss Nintendo will be sailing along and that goes for Sony and M$. I don't really hate any console. I can appreciate what each has to offer. I am just doing Nintendo some well deserved justice after taking a media beating from uneducated "analysts". In the end profit is all that truly matters... the end.

This is the first well thought out defense of the wii u i've heard. u forgot wii fit btw. but there was one error; we do know the sony makes a profit from the sale of one ps4, some sony guy said this at E3.

Nintendo doesn't like being unfair with their fanbase that's the reason why their games stay full price for the entirety of the gen.

I seriously almost choked on my apple.

I had no idea they kept the prices high just out of love for the consumer.  Those heartless bastards who lower their prices need to learn from Nintendo's shining example!

With Sony, Microsoft and other third party games if you buy early you pretty much get screwed you'll have to pay 60$ for the game and 40$ for the extra dlc but if you wait for a year you get the full game and dlc for 20$, when they launch the game of the year version, that's unfair, with nintendo you can buy your game at launch or 5 years later and it will still be the same price even if the sequel is out, that my friend is fairness

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

"First of all it's the cheapest console out there."
Disagreed.
PS3 and X360 are both cheapier, and they will be in the market for 4 years more.

But, if not a price cut, they need at least an interesting bundle for 300$ with mario kart 8.

But my major confidance in wii U is that x1 ans ps4 are redundant, if someone would have to pick 2 consoles from this 8th genertion, one of them would be wii U.
