Forums - General - Political People: An Anecdotal Reference

DISCLAIMER:
This is not meant to be a discussion about politics, but a discussion about the political populace. I honestly don't care whether you are for or against any of the mentioned civics (wd?). It's just things I know about that help illustrate a picture. Think less about their or my beliefs and more about just the people in general. This isn't about the politics but about the people. Feel free to contribute your own anecdotes. Remember, you're not here to debate sides, just to, I dunno, vent and have fun. ~

So, getting on with it, politics upsets me a lot. It's crazy how angry people get and it's scary how conspiratorial some actual occurences are (like watergate for example). There's loads of people involved, but I think the people who make it the worst are the ones who simply refuse to listen to reason.

The unreasonable: For example, this friend of mine, his mother thinks all these crazy things about Obama, like him not being a citizen, and I'm just like "wut? Do you actually believe this, because we might not be able to be friends anymore" lol. She spends such a huge part of her day reading politics as well, so I'm always surprised when she buys into these kinds of accusations, or just wildly tells all her bitty friends their Obama gossip.

The "innocent bystander": I guess there's also me too, who only sees the good things Obama does, and defends him. I guess that would mean I'm kinda ignoring facts too right? It just gets so complicated sometimes. So maybe I'm just like her (above), I dunno. I only really get involved when I think the ideas of America are being abused. Like, last week I had a vet friend on facebook post a pic of lil wayne walking on the American flag, and he was like "fuck this guy, deport him" etc etc. And I was like, "I'm sorry to disagree, but freedom of speech". To that my vet friend, said "freedom of speech", incredulously, "people I know have died for that flag". And then I said, "no, they died to protect free speech among other freedoms". Then he unfriended me. lol. I dunno, am I an asshole, or biased, or what? This is why I write "innocent bystander" in quotes, because I think what I'm saying is right, to the best of my knowledge, but I might be just as bad as "the unreasonable" above.

The Poison: But, like, then there's people like this office mate who is actually required by law to not give political messages (since I work for the government), so if politics ever comes up she just always says like "each person has their own opinions". But then in emails she always sends out these studies on abortion and same-sex, portraying them in a bad light. It's really annoying though, especially since nothing can be done about it, unless I start sending out pro-lgbt pro abortion studies, and that's just a lot of work, imo.

From what I gather though, everyone in the department despises her, so that's a plus....even the conservatives apart from a select few who are just as vitriolic in their own way. Hilariously enough, I think she thinks that everyone likes her, because we all say things like, "that email you sent was extremely interesting, I did a lot of research on it myself", and the rest of us will call rote.
I can't say she isn't smart though; she does find extremely thorough ways to spout whatever mockery or ignorance without actually breaking any workplace rules. Although, I went to this book club meeting with her, and we were talking about movie-books  and found her favorite book was 'the great gatsby', which she's read like 40 times. Strangely enough, though I just said she's smart, she has no idea what the actual message of the book is about (she thinks it's something about like, never being able to be happy, so don't care what people think. wtf ikr? Completely over her head lol) Perhaps she was just trolling us all haha. Who knows?

(Also, she gets super serial when something so tiny happens. Like, if someone uses one of the 10 free cream cheese packets from the donut shop, she'll be all like "who took my cream cheese? We're going to have to have a rule about this, and I'm going to see about getting a lock on the door". I feel like -and I feel bad for saying this- but maybe she is just mental.)

The scholar: And, not to bring up vgc members on here, but then there's people like Kasz, who I'm not always sure I can trust. I feel like a great portion of his info is right, but a lot I think is unjustified, which makes me hesitant to listen to him. But I don't think I can ever really say he's been wrong about something. I do think he does try to spin things in his direction every now and then though. I only say this, and I rarely get the chance to use this phrase appropriately, but I only say this because he's too smart for his own good. IE, he's so smart, that it makes a perfectly plausible reason that he may be feeding me complete bullshit and I wouldn't know.

The faceless men: I guess the scariest political people though are the ones we don't even know about...people in the background. Like hey, maybe they had our neighborhood voting station at a school because it's to make me think about our children and education. Right, RIGHT? haha.......maybe. #spooky

Anyone know any other types or have funny political anecdotes?
