Forums - General - Anyone ever hear of Fermilab? It is like America's version of CERN

Dude, the Higgs Boson is a fundamental particle that was the missing piece in the standard model.

CERN is the physics institute that you must be referring to.

The discovery of the Fermilab research laboratory is hailed as a breathrough in particle physics matching that of the Higgs Boson!

Fermilab is American, CERN is European no?

But they only have the second world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator!

I live about an hour away from it.

My dad did some of the electrical work on the particle accelorators

If you saw all the underground tunnels, and bunkers and cooling ponds and lakes you would agree that it is true. I think the area has been here since the 60's when the State made everyone in the little town there move away. So they have had time to build a little community there. The Main building is amazing itself.

The cooling ponds remainded me of Evangelion... Seriously this labs and the hadron collider make me believe the Evangelion might be upon us!
