Well, I had to replace upgrade part of my PC because the mobo... kind of broke (the SATA ports were unreliable and killed my 1 month old SSD :,-( ). And given that the P55 line of boards were already gone, I had an i5-750, I had to change both the mobo and CPU. And get a new SSD, ofc.
About the GPU, I thought about getting an HD 7870 shortly after they were launched, it offered me more than 50% more fps while using the same power and costing the same as my card (250 €), but I decided to wait for the new 20nm ones.
So yeah, by the end of this year or beginning of 2015 I'll get a new GPU .

During Valve’s Steam Dev Days, Nvidia talked about OpenGL and how developers can take this open-source API in order to overcome the CPU limitations of the past and get performance similar to Mantle. Now before jumping around like little kids, know that this solution has not been adopted by anyone and we may never see this getting used to any triple-A games, as most games nowadays are using DirectX rather OpenGL. Endnight Games has announced its horror game The Forest is set for an early alpha release on Steam in a few months. “CS:GO has been hitting milestones recently,” say Valve. The latest iteration of the competitive shooting standard now regularly doubles the player numbers of its parent game on Steam. And during the same period, Global Offensive’s playerbase passed beyond two million unique accounts. Lots.
Remember that whole fiasco between progaming teams Ninjas in Pyjamas and Lemondogs as they attempted to trade an LCS spot between them, only to have Riot quash it with a rules change?
Today, Riot added a new twist as they fined Ninjas in Pyjamas’ former mid laner, Soren Bjerg, $2000 for his role in the affair. They found that he was guilty of poaching members of the Lemondogs team, which is odd because it’s usually teams and not players who do the poaching. So how did Bjergsen find himself in the middle of all this? Hint: eSports aren’t always wildly professional.

Firefall developer Red 5 Studios’ parent company, The9 and two shareholders have entered into share purchase agreement to Shanghai Oriental Pearl Culture Development Co., Ltd. of approximately $23 million. This means more funding for the MMO which was originally planned for a 2011 release. “This additional round of funding will offer us the means to execute on our plan for successfully launching Firefall in 2014.” said James Macauley, acting CEO. “This is the year Firefall takes flight. It’s Jet Set Radio Future! No, it’s Mirror’s Edge! No, both wrong. It’s actually Hover: Revolt of Gamer, a parkour game about saving videogames from corrupt governments. Apparently any game with free running automatically comes coupled with the dystopian politics storyline. But don’t let that distract you from the dizzying array of colour. Let it seep into your eyeballs and addle your mind. That’s it. Now watch the trailer.
Episodes of Dexter’s Lab and films like Freaky Friday make it seem quite incredible to swap bodies with someone, despite there always being one of those ‘morals’ at the conclusion of the story. If only we had the technology here and now to swap bodies with people, we could disprove these films and demonstrate the true power of mind swaps. And I guess everyone could discover what it’s like to have the opposite wobbly bits too, whilst we’re at it. All in the name of science, like.
Turns out that technology has been here all the long though, right in front of our faces. Or on our faces, since it’s Oculus Rift. A group of scientists have been using it to swap peoples bodies and genders, and explore the effects.
Purchase a copy of Car Mechanic Simulator 2014, out on Steam today, and you know you’re getting the market leader.
“This is the very first game simulating a car repair workshop,” write publishers PlayWay. “There‘s no competition for our product, and in the nearest future there won’t be any.”
Once the laughs subside into curious throat noises, though, you’ll find this is a game build with the zeal and application we’ve come to expect from specialist sim developers. In development at Polish outfit Red Dot Games since 2011, Car Mechanic Sim features a 75 mission-strong career mode about refitting sedans, limos and SUVs.
Team Fortress 2, the competitive, multiplayer first-person shooter from Valve Software, has been updated - or ‘patched’. Users of Valve’s storefront and games house, Steam, will find that new files will seep unsolicited into their version of the game - changing it in scores of small and surprising ways.
Surprising, that is, unless you have the patch notes. Which we do.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer Warhorse Studios has said the game will be moddable. Speaking with RPS, project director Daniel Vávra said the team is also considering releasing a toolset. “We are quite open to modding,” he said. “Since it’s on CryEngine, it should be easy to mod, too. We [also] hope that we will be able to release our tools and assets for CryEngine SDK. No guarantees now, but it would be a shame not to do it.” The game was put on Kickstarter earlier this week, and in no time at all, met its funding goal. The open-world, medieval RPG sandbox will be released episodically on PC and next-gen systems. The game has been in the works since a month after Warhorse announced its formation in July 2011.

PlanetSide 1 will go free-to-play in April, Sony Online Entertainment announced yesterday. According to a notice in the All Access FAQ, PlanetSide will not see further game development. SOE boss John Smedley confirmed the game would be going F2P back in may 2013. PlanetSide was released in 2003.

Earlier in the week Paolo Pedercini, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University and game developer, criticised Introversion for their game Prison Architect. He claims that the game, in its current state, is too simplistic a representation of the US prison system and the social structures that it resides in. While critical of the game, he does say that Prison Architect “could easily become a powerful tool to see incarceration through multiple lenses, possibly even prefiguring alternatives to the existing dysfunctional system.”
Introversion have responded to a number of Pedercini’s complaints revealing that their game is going to become a much darker simulation in the future.

The humble turret gets a short shrift. Many claim that it’s dogs that are man’s best friend but that’s patently ridiculous. The poor oft overlooked turret’s been added to the Exterminatus mod, fleshing out the Warhammer 40k for Half-Life 2 by providing the emperor’s chosen with man’s true companion.

You've probably seen the news that came out of CES a few weeks ago: 4K ultra-high-definition monitors for under $1000! Dell announced the P2815Q, a 28-inch 3840x2160 panel for just $700, and you can already buy it. Lenovo and Asus both announced their own sub-$1000 4K panels at the show--the Lenovo ThinkVision 2840m and Asus PB287Q, both shipping in spring or summer for $800 and both offering that 28-inch 4K experience. But are any of them good enough to buy?
Nope. Not yet.
All the sub-$1000 4K monitors announced so far--at least the ones we have any panel information on--use twisted-nematic (TN) displays rather than in-plane-switching (IPS) panels. A TN panel can have quicker refresh rates, but everything else about it is inferior to IPS: the viewing angles are bad, the colors are more washed out, and it inherently can't reproduce as wide an array of colors as an IPS panel, so it's not accurate enough to use for photo or video editing. (More on the difference in this previous column.)
TN panels are still popular with twitch gamers because they can have much quicker pixel refresh times than IPS monitors, which can be important in fast multiplayer shooters. And indeed, Dell advertises a 5ms refresh rate, which on the surface seems fast enough for gamers. But that leads us the next problem with Dell's 28-inch 4K monitor, and possibly the other two as well.
