@JEMC

One thing, i looked at linus like he was a retard buying a motherboard little to no expasion. also this build i linked, one of my non-tech-savy friends is going to build with as little help from me as a test to see how hard it would be, and with the knowldge to google issues, just see how far they get before they need help. also only issue i ran into on this build is the power supply due to it being that weird dell power harness i had to look for a psu that dell made worked still cheap but added 20$.

I can see it, you'Il watching from his back moving your head left to right all the time with all the mistakes he'll make, and having a guilty pleasure from it .

And $20 for a new PSU is not that bad.

@JEMC this build has started they are buying a lot of the parts. they are building a case for this cause building a case is fun and easy for this and you can make it for anything and following most ideas form masteam cases (positive air pressure is key). also will benchmark everything when done so data is usable for you.

Building my own case goes beyond my capabilities.

Will they use one and modify it or will they build the case from scratch? And if so, what will they use: metal, aluminium, acrylic, a bit of everything?

the case walls should be cheap and easy to modify and replace mdf is a good easy material to use easy to get and strong for most uses and light, 3/4" to 1" are needed to deal with the weight. the mobo stand offs are cheap and velcro straps and zip ties to hold heavy things in palce server heat sinks will hold in palce but to be sure mdf is easy to tap screws into. this case is going to made from scratch because server mounting hardware is hard for most pc case see linus's video on that part due to weird mounting. hdd's you can velcro down with and the fans mounting is easy have a tiny fan controller that has the fron case fans pulling alot more air and the rear pushing out air at slower speeds causing a slight positive air pressure keeping most dust out and using mdf for a gpu mount sothe gpu is farther away from the hot server parts with this you need to sheilding on a pcie cable extender double sided tape to insulate the cable with tin( or lead {lead foil does better for this but is scary to use}) foil the fan mounting holes for 120mm are 115mm stanard for mounting holes so thats easy i've made mini-itx cases before so i have some knowlegde on the mounting points. the design i have in the docs link is a napkin drawing so dont take that as the endall be all on that but the case should be able to be upgradable for later better or ther hardware.

sorry on grammer and my brian was everywhere on that

Is the case something they want to build, or something that they do because they don't find a case that fits the motherboard?

I think it was when Intel launched the first i7 processors and the X58 chipsets, that some manufacturers launched dual-CPU motherboards for the consumer market, and that prompted case manufacturers to launch cases that supported Extended ATX or E-ATX motherboards. From the look of the board you've picked, there are some cases that could fit it.

If you look at the mounting holes of the board

it looks like it could be screwed in the HAF 932 case, for example

Top holes in A, B and D position / Middle holes in the E, F and H (this one hiding behind the cords) / Central hole in K / Lower holes in M, O and P positions.

The problem is that the cheapest 932 I found on ebay is $29.99

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cooler-Master-Computer-Tower-Case-/321943267849?hash=item4af5506a09:g:j20AAOSw7FRWXzf6

But if that case can fit the mobo, other E-ATX cases will also be able to do it.

Damn I really can't wait for XCOM 2, especially with them detailing that £20 season pass which is much cheaper than the SP's big publishers are dishing out, especially with Firaxis detailing what they entail which is also nice of them.

Also I need to finish Dying Light soon so I can start on Witcher 3, though I feel I won't finish W3 before years end.

@JEMC That is do-able but the only issue i see upgrade path on the case. also dell made alot of dell only mounting on their boards making it almost impossable for 3rd party cases to use that is why making a case is a good option due to being cheap upgradable for newer or other parts gives you that "i made this feel" the case in the google doc was more or less a idea on what it should be. also using a 3rd party case use to placement of io heast sinks and the sort the case linked would need to be edited with a dremel and files that most people do not have the tools to make the case the hardware store that sold you the mdf has the tools for it to be cut on site (homedepot in the usa) if that case works from what i am looking at it might i will do more with that (but more of the reason for the diy case is friend wants a steampunk it on the outside make it look like a 1870's footlocker)
