Godus takes place on a single Jupiter-sized world

Something 22 Cans had been keeping quiet till now is that Godus isn’t a single player game with a multiplayer component. The game takes place on a single planet. Literally thousands of colonies, all being nurtured by separate players/gods, will be growing.

What will happen when them meet? Peter Molyneux says “ I'm not even going to start to explain what we think is going to happen at that moment."

"When you found your colony, 100 miles away from you in this world, some other human will be founding their colony,” Molyneux told IGN. “And over the days and weeks - it's going to take you weeks - slowly you're going to one day meet. Two different religions will meet," Molyneux tells me excitedly. "And I'm not even going to start to explain what we think is going to happen at that moment."

The world has to be pretty vast to cater for all the myriad of player civilizations that will be populating it. If Molyneux speaks the truth then it is: "The world itself is part procedurally generated and part hand-crafted by us, and it's about the size of Jupiter. If I keep scrolling in one direction it would take me an entire lifetime to come back around to where I was. It's 225,000 bigger than earth."

Details of how exactly the game and its world will work are still sketchy. Hopefully some of the questions we have about the game will be answered when it arrives on Steam later this month.

Minecraft Has Now Sold Over 12 Million Copies On PC

It sounds hyperbolic but, in a lot of ways, the story of Minecraft is the greatest video gaming story of the past 10 years. It’s certainly the most unpredictable. Now the game has sold over 12 million copies. I’m on the statistics page of the Minecraft website and I’m refreshing it. Every time I refresh it the number jumps up. It makes me realise that dozens of people are buying this game every single minute.

Who knows how far this crazy thing will go.

It’s already sold more copies than games like Half-Life, Battlefield 2 and Starcraft. It’s now fast approaching Half-Life 2 and Diablo III. After it inevitably overtakes those game (they’re all sitting at about 12 million) the only games ahead of it will be The Sims and The Sims 2. In the end, Minecraft may have a decent shot at being the best selling PC game of all time. I find that completely crazy.

Ivy Bridge-E has arrived.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7255/intel-core-i7-4960x-ivy-bridge-e-review

And, not upgrading, not worth dropping $600 - $1,000 for an insignificant IPC increase and potentially lower overclocking headroom over my currently awesome clocking chip, in-fact the 3930K's have risen in price by almost $100 bucks since I bought mine.
Haswell-E you are my only hope! Just hope it's not another long 2 year wait, 4 years with the same Motherboard and CPU? Ugh, shoot me.

With AMD strugling in the high end market with their CPUs the market has really stagnated. I don't really think that is going to change any time soon either, so better settle in for a future of incremental upgrades. At this point the only thing that looks to really shake up CPU performance is a major achitecture change like 3D ICs and stacked DRAM which is still a ways off. Or replacing silicone with something else like graphite or carbon nanotubes but that as a even longer ways off. Unless by some miracle Intel get some real competition soon at the high end it will be the status quo.

Deadly Premonition gets PC release date

Thanks to a rapid and popular Greenlight campaign, Hitedaka Suehiro’s cult-favourite supernatural adventure Deadly Premonition will arrive on Steam before the end of the year.

Rising Star confirmed the port in July, but only popped a release date on it this week. According to the shiny new Steam app page, we can expect it on November 1. A price has not been set at this point.

Like the PS3 release, this version is a Director’s Cut of the one-time Xbox 360 exclusive, and as such includes a new story episode; enhanced HD graphics with new textures; better controls; and other new content.

However, the PC release also has its own exclusive add-on content, as well as all the usual bells and whistles – trading cards and achievements.

Deadly Premonition was passed through Steam Greenlight within a week of its announce.

How many League of Legends champions is too many? "I don't think we’re close yet"

Riot sent their 'relaunch' team to PAX this year. These are the men and (one) woman who take apart League of Legends’ creakiest champions and work out what makes them compelling, before wrapping them in new skins and lore and returning them to their public.

The job is endless: by the time they reach the end of the bridge, it’ll be time to start repainting from the beginning. At last count, LoL had 115 champions. There will be more.

The panel of developers were asked: isn’t that total going to get a bit - well - silly?

You know I never really got into Naruto, I read the Manga years ago then kinda dropped off. Will probably end up buying this just to support future PC ports because I am a sucker. These games are supposed to be good right?

Yeah, but Intel wants to make money too, allot of people are hanging off those upgrades untill Haswell-E 8-core/16 thread chips, that's cash Intel misses out on in the mean time.
And lets be frank, Socket 2011 is the enthusiast platform who likes to spend big and has a large profit margin and expects the best.

Interested to see if CGI will keep with his current chip or jumps onto Ivy-Bridge-E.

I just don't think raw performance is a priority for them right now. Idle power draw, improving intergrated graphics, moving more components onto the CPU (voltage regulator) etc And seem happy to just push minor IPC increases. Haswell-E will be more of the same if it's mainstream debut is any indecation.

Yeah, with the PC market shrinking due to the rise of smartphones and tablets where ARM reigns and with ARM also going after the server market, Intel has been forced to increase their effords in those segments. After all, AMD can't challenge them in the high-end market right now.

Total War: Rome II trumps Shogun II’s peak number of players three times over

Rome II launched with a number of bugs and issues which are causing players a fair bit of trouble. Despite this, it’s also trouncing Shogun II's concurrent player record. That game’s peak was a bit over 38,000. Rome II’s concurrent number of players is still rising but it currently sits at more than 118,000. Three times Shogun’s record.

It looks like Rome II will go on to be Creative Assembly’s most successful Total War game to date.

Back when Shogun II launched in March, 2011 was when it enjoyed its most concurrent players. Its record was set at 38,517:

Rome II on the other hand, since launching earlier today, has already passed 118,238 players:

It’s a fantastic jump for the series. Now if all those bugs can be fixed with a speedily-released patch we’ll be laughing.

Till then, if you aren't already in the game, you should read Fraser's review.

Sucks, I can't play it yet. :(
Need to wait another 3 days for my download limit to kick over to a new month before I can download it without worrying about the download coming from overseas and counting on my limit.

Also, what's peoples performance like? Is it lightly threaded like Shogun and CPU dependant?
