I think Nvidia has one main problem and it's the fact that their GPUs always need a partner. Without either an AMD or Intel CPU, their GPUs are more or less useless. Yea they have some CPUs but those are no where near as good as AMD or Intel's solutions so they can never just sell an entire package.

And that's what the end game is imo. They want to be the CPU, the GPU and every other part of their product. They don't want to partner with someone else when they sell their servers, they want to make every aspect. It's why they bought Mellanox for Networking and I think it's the exact same reason why they are buying Arm.

Anandtech also reported on the nVidia > ARM Acquisition. Exciting times... Maybe no more cheap rubbish Mali based graphics in low-end SoC's?

--::{PC Gaming Master Race}::--

Here's hoping some people didn't get the memo about the extended NDA.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

The biggest question about the ARM purchase is, given how much this purchase impacts all the mobile market, if Nvidia will be forced by regulators to sell part of it or guarantee the same or a similar access to the licences that are currently in place.

Other than that, Nvidia could use ARM to further expand its SoC business for self-driving card sand AI, maybe even IoT, segments that should massively grow in the coming years.

I doubt much will change with ARM. All Nvidia did was buy a 40bn lifetime subscription of licensing fees.

ARM is still likely to spin off it's IoT/Treasure Data businesses and it's really not a market nVidia has an interest in... So I would assume that would continue. (That and nVidia doesn't really get to control the direction ARM is heading in for at-least another year and a half anyway.)

Would likely be in boths best interest to spin it off and license the technology to organizations who are interested in that stuff like Raspberry Pi.

Cars and compute are definitely segments nVidia is wanting, they are extremely high-growth, profit-lucrative segments.

Intel at the moment has a market cap of about 210~ Billion smacko's... nVidia grabbing ARM would likely push nVidia over the 500~ billion market cap... Basically investors think nVidia is where the profit growth is.

AMD by comparison is 76~ billion.

Revenue wise... Intel is 71.9~ billion, AMD 6.48~ billion and nVidia is about 13~ billion. Intel is also far more asset rich because of it's fab business though.

But the real kicker is that... nVidia's I.P replacing Mali could be extremely disruptive to the ARM market, suddenly Adreno, PowerVR will have real competition and could ultimately be made redundant.
But the other implication is... Nintendo.

Suddenly Nintendo will *not* be required to buy it's mobile technology direct from nVidia, suddenly they can shop around to every single other ARM chip designer and get the best price/performance and still potentially leverage nVidia graphics technology anyway.

But it also means that Nintendo could have more competition on mobile specs, considering there is nothing that sets them apart from everyone else and their pet cat.

Interesting times.

Meh, Nvidia is incredibly overvalued at the moment, and so is AMD to an extent. I think a readjustment is more likely in the upcoming years than continuous market cap growth.

I think the real question lies with what Samsung will want to do with Exynos since I don't think Qualcomm will be affected by the buyout, and Apple very likely will continue with Imagination Technologies and perhaps eventually even buy them outright (or, less likely, Intel will do it instead). If there are layoffs at ARM Norway, or Nvidia decides to spin it off, Samsung might go for it as a foundation to develop their own proprietary architecture.

Wait, am I reading correctly, that Wednesday is NDA day for all new cards? I was under the assumption that it's specifically just for the 3080.

The original Death Rally is now free on Steam, forever
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-original-death-rally-is-now-free-on-steam-forever/
Remedy is celebrating its 25th anniversary by making their first game, Death Rally, free forever. It's on Steam as Death Rally (Classic), and it's a somewhat-fondly-remembered top-down death racing game. Boasting "over 20 megs of action-packed animation," in Death Rally you throw bullets down the track at opponents and dodge the ones thrown back at you. It's a noteworthy game because it has a pretty early example of a real progression system—climbing the ladder allows you to get new cars with their own weapons or upgrade your current one.

MODS, EMULATORS & FAN PROJECTS

Modders are planning to create their own Crysis Remaster in CryEngine 5.6.6, first early screenshots
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/modders-are-planning-to-create-their-own-crysis-remaster-in-cryengine-5-6-6-first-early-screenshots/
Crysis Remastered is officially releasing in a few days on the PC. However, it appears that a team of modders is working on its own remaster of Crysis in CryEngine 5. And, even though the official remaster may not be based on the original PC version, this unofficial one will have the original PC controls, as well as the Ascension level.
Going into more details, this unofficial Crysis Remaster will have Raytracing, SVOGI , and Volumetric lighting. Additionally, it will have Dynamic and Volumetric Clouds and Fog, as well as more CE5 exclusive features. Basically, this unofficial remaster promises to feature most, if not all, of the graphical improvements of Crysis Remastered.
From what we know so far, this unofficial remaster is in a really early stage. While some of the levels are done, the project is nowhere close to completion. Moreover, its creator is currently looking for animators, AI programmers, vegetation artists, and additional 3D artists.
>> There are some screenshots, but I doubt we'll get more than that for a while.

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project 12.0 Ultimate gets its sixth comparison video
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/the-witcher-3-hd-reworked-project-12-0-ultimate-gets-its-sixth-comparison-video/
Modder ‘Halk Hogan’ has released the sixth, and most likely final, comparison video for The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project 12.0 Ultimate. Similarly to the previous videos, this new one compares the vanilla textures with the new ones featured in this mod.

Here's a Crusader Kings 3 and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater mashup mod
https://www.pcgamer.com/heres-a-crusader-kings-3-and-tony-hawk-mashup-mod/
Did you ever wonder why they stylized the remake of Pro Skater as "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2"? It's because 1 + 2 = 3.
Crusader Kings 3, to be precise.
Tony Hawk's Pro Crusaders 1 + 2 is a mod crossover of two recently released games I was not expecting. But by God it now exists. What inspired the now-legendary modder known only by the Steam name Voffvoffhunden? "My friend Gary couldn't decide whether to play Tony Hawk or Crusader Kings 3," says the description, "so I made this mod to help him out." It's a surprisingly complete and thorough joke, down to little stained-glass skater symbols in the top corner of the events.
>> Just to be clear, this is a mod for Crusader Kings III.

Monday news, part two:

Baldur's Gate 3 will let you decide a streamer's dialogue choices
https://www.pcgamer.com/baldurs-gate-3-will-let-you-decide-a-streamers-dialogue-choices/
Baldur's Gate 3 will be all about choice, and if it lives up to its immense promise, it will be these many, game-changing decisions that'll keep players locked into the Forgotten Realms for many years. So naturally, Larian is going big on it: Baldur's Gate 3 will let players make and suggest dialogue choices to their favourite streamers.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake is coming to PC soon
https://www.pcgamer.com/panzer-dragoon-remake-is-coming-to-pc-soon/
Panzer Dragoon: Remake is coming to PC soon, and if that sounds oddly familiar, you might be thinking back to October 2019, when it was expected to arrive on Steam "this winter." I'm not sure what happened after that, but what didn't happen is the launch of the game. It did launch on the Nintendo Switch back in March, though, and today Sega recommitted to upcoming launches on Steam and GOG.

Star Citizen is free to fly for the next two weeks
https://www.pcgamer.com/star-citizen-is-free-to-fly-for-the-next-two-weeks/
Star Citizen, which surpassed an astronomical $300 million in crowdfunding in June (it's up to $313 million now), is holding another "Free Fly" session for the next couple of weeks, giving prospective pilots a chance to get behind the controls of some of the game's most popular ships at no charge.

Chris Roberts: Star Citizen gameplay 'is not a pipe dream'
https://www.pcgamer.com/chris-roberts-star-citizen-gameplay-is-not-a-pipe-dream/
Last week a Star Citizen player made a video about its atmospheric room system, which has been in the works for four years, expressing frustration with the amount of progress made. Cloud Imperium Games director Chris Roberts replied on the Star Citizen forum, saying that the systemic approach being taken would mean more emergent possibilities, but "The downside of this approach is that it takes longer to see results as opposed to scripting actions as you have to build the fundamental systems first and have them interact with each other before the full extent of the gameplay becomes apparent."

Hades won't have cross-saves between PC and Switch until after launch
https://www.pcgamer.com/hades-wont-have-cross-saves-between-pc-and-switch-until-after-launch/
Supergiant Games' roguelike Hades is leaving Early Access pretty soon, but it won't have cross-save compatibility with the Switch version until later this year. In a tweet, Supergiant explained that the feature was originally promised to be ready at launch but the developer hit some unexpected snags. "Rather than postpone our v1.0 launch plans until the feature is complete, we're going to introduce cross-saves in an update later this year, after Hades v1.0 launches this fall," Supergiant said.

Commander 85 is a weird retro-adventure that looks like WarGames meets Stranger Things
https://www.pcgamer.com/commander-85-is-a-weird-retro-adventure-that-looks-like-wargames-meets-stranger-things/
Remember WarGames, the mid-'80s Matthew Broderick movie about a kid who hacks into the US military's supercomputer and almost touches off World War 3 because he thinks he's playing a videogame? Commander 85 looks a lot like that, but streaked with a few decades of nostalgia rather than the very real fear that young whippersnappers and their newfangled gadgets would be the death of us all.

A Monster's Expedition is a delightfully twee puzzle game
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-monsters-expedition-is-a-delightfully-twee-puzzle-game/
A Monster's Expedition is a new puzzle game where you explore an open, outdoor museum for monsters who want to learn more about human civilization. It's an historical, human, and very cute experience. A Monster's Expedition is the latest from puzzle game designer Draknek and collaborators, billed here as Draknek & Friends. Draknek is behind some of the better puzzle games of the past decade, like Cosmic Express and hit indie puzzler Sokobond.

Here's a new trailer and details about Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
https://www.pcgamer.com/heres-a-new-trailer-and-details-about-puyo-puyo-tetris-2/
Sega released some new details on the upcoming Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 today, specifically detailing some new info about the game's single-player adventure mode. It's a continuation of the same story from the first game, kind of, with the kind of odd cross-dimensional storyline you've probably come to expect from games like this. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, the second in the most unexpectedly good series mashup of the past few years, is coming to Steam early next year.

Farmlife roguelike Atomicrops' Epic exclusivity is ending, and it's adding new stuff
https://www.pcgamer.com/farmlife-roguelike-atomicrops-epic-exclusivity-is-ending-and-its-adding-new-stuff/
Atomicrops isn't like those other farmlife sims where you inherit your grandfather's farm. No, in Atomicrops you inherit your dead uncle's farm. It's completely different! Actually, what makes it different is that as soon as you inherit that farm a nuclear war starts and you have to defend your farm from mutants every night, working your way through seasonal bosses until you make it to Nuclear Winter. Or die trying and start again.

Nobody knows when Extreme Rise of the Triad released, including its developer
https://www.pcgamer.com/nobody-knows-when-extreme-rise-of-the-triad-released-including-its-developer/
Back in 1995 there was this FPS called Rise of the Triad, right? People liked it. So then it got an expansion, Extreme Rise of the Triad, that added 40-some new levels to blast through. These expansion levels were designed by Joe Siegler and Tom Hall, who worked for Apogee, a company that you might now know as 3D Realms.

Justice Sucks: Recharged is Hitman but you're a roomba
https://www.pcgamer.com/justice-sucks-recharged-is-hitman-but-youre-a-roomba/
Last year Australian indie studio Samurai Punk released Roombo: First Blood, a game about a killer cleaning robot protecting its home from burglars. In the upcoming sequel, that roomba is somehow trapped in "a Neo-90s multiverse" inside a television set, with each level a different sandbox world. It's called Justice Sucks: Recharged, and as part of PAX Online you can try out a demo on Steam.

Crystal Caves HD is a light remake of the 1993 shareware classic
https://www.pcgamer.com/crystal-caves-hd-is-a-light-remake-of-the-1993-shareware-classic/
First released in 1991, Crystal Caves was a 2D platformer you may be familiar with if, like me, your '90s PC gaming diet was composed entirely of shareware episodes. I definitely played this back in the day, though I don't remember it as vividly as I do stuff like Commander Keen, Cosmos Cosmic Adventure, Jill of the Jungle and Monster Bash (all much better than Mario, according to '90s PC kids). Anyway: Crystal Caves is getting a remake.

PUBG leak suggests upcoming 'tournament-style' autobattler mode called Vostok
https://www.pcgamer.com/pubg-leak-suggests-upcoming-tournament-style-autobattler-mode-called-vostok/
In a new video, PUBG expert PlayerIGN details a recent leak that looks like a new game mode, codenamed "Vostok". Based on various hints in the code, such as the mode's name, PlayerIGN claims players should expect an all-new map with arenas. He also shares a screen showing a limited number of spawns and a currency you earn at the end of a round to buy new gear with.

This year's virtual Game Devs of Color Expo is worth checking out, even if you're not a developer
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-years-virtual-game-devs-of-color-expo-is-worth-checking-out-even-if-youre-not-a-developer/
If there's one good thing about 2020, it's that the wide variety of virtual events makes it easier to attend conferences and shows we otherwise would have no chance to participate in. The Game Devs of Color Expo, taking place from September 19–20, is one such event. It's a smaller expo you might not have heard of, but which is all the more important given the ongoing discussions about diversity in game development, which came back into focus with the beginning of new Black Lives Matter protests in June of this year.

More Borderlands 3 DLC in the works, including skill trees and a new game mode
https://www.pcgamer.com/more-borderlands-3-dlc-in-the-works-including-skill-trees-and-a-new-game-mode/
Gearbox's digital showcase at PAX Online included lots of fun Borderlands 3 stuff — including stats like how many bullets were fired, and how many cumulative years (years!) players have spent in co-op. The BL3 voice actors hammed it up during the showcase and we also got news on another Tiny Tina tabletop game (this time it's an RPG). What's more important than what players have already been up to is, of course, what we can expect from Borderlands 3 going forward.
